Topic on Extension talk:WYSIWYG

Hi everyone!

Im working on a private wikisite and i can choose wheater to Show WikiTextEditor or Show RichTextEditor. However my friends cannot, they can only use WikiTextEditor (there is no option to use Show WikiTextEditor or Show RichTextEditor).

Im a total newbie, what am i doing wrong?

Where do you choose to use WikiTextEditor or RichTextEditor? in preferences?

Hi, no I just switch between them above the toolbar.

But actually the main thing is that I want people to be able to use the RichTextEditor as it is more user friendly.

Assuming the switch is created by JavaScript, the cause may be a JavaScript error in MediaWiki code (related or unrelated to the RichTextEditor extension you use) that's preventing them to show up.

Open the error console in your browser and look for any JavaScript error you may encounter there, and maybe figure out what extension is causing the problem and disable it.

So when creating the a wiki the options should automatically be there? Or is that something you need to install on each computer that wants to edit the wiki?

What's the Rich Text Editor extension are you using? The manual page should tell you the installation requirements.

Oh i have no idea, i "took over" this wiki from another person, for me the richtext editor works however not for any of my collegues. Do i have to install something on their computers to make it work or is it something that needs to be installed on the wiki site itself?

You should look at Special:Version in your wiki.

This is the two extensions installed:

WYSIWYG extension (Version 1.5.6_0 [B551], CKEditor 3.6 (revision 6902)) WikiEditor (Version 0.3.1)

One option for rich text editor is wysiwyg. To activate it you must install some version of WYSIWYG extension in your mediawiki.

To get toggle link activated (=switch between wikieditor and wysiwyg mode) you must enable it in user preferences (=Use toggle to switch between wikitext and rich editor (replace textarea with rich editor)). To use toggle link, you must also have WikiEditor extension installed.

For more information about different version of wysiwyg see download section. You can find one version of wysiwyg here (version: 1.5.6_0 [B551+12.01.2015]), you can also find short installation and configuration instructions there on front page. This version supports source mode inside wysiwyg editor and also wikieditor extension using toggle link located on top of wysiwyg window. Section Installation also tells something about user permissions.

So basically, it appears that the OP has this option active in his preferences, while the other users don't,

That may be the case in case others can not start wysiwyg at all.

If problem is only with toggle link which is used to switch between wikieditor and wysiwyg editor, then problem may be one of these:

• setting in user preferences (=use of toggle link disabled)
• version of wysiwyg used may not support wikieditor or wikieditor extension is not installed or activated in LocalSettings.php
• version of wikieditor is not batched to be compatible with wysiwyg
• some weird browser issue

Version "1.5.6_0 [B551+12.01.2015]" should work because it contains both wysiwyg and wikieditor which is modified to be compatible with wysiywg. How other versions behave, I can not tell anything for sure.
