Which Python version to use?

The current production versions are Python 2.6.5 and Python 3.1.2. Python 2.5.2 is no longer easily accessible. Will 2.6.5 work? Walter Siegmund (talk) 02:43, 23 May 2010 (UTC)

Is this necessary?

This page is written for the audience of a OSX user that does not even know how to use the most basics of the command line, for example, how to change directories or edit a file. My experience in user support has demonstrated that providing extremely detailed documentation on advanced subjects for users that are not tech-savvy ends up being self-defeating, since it generally just wastes the time of the user (who usually is unable to get things working despite the documentation, or make proper use of the tool when they do get it working) and the support staff. Needs updating

In answer to the two-year-old question above, yep, it helped me. I had little experience of the command line, but I found it written well enough to allow me to install pywikipediabot. The problem now is that it has not been updated in quite a while. It assumes the user is employing 10.5 or lower, which a lot of people aren't using any more. It also contains a link to a page for MySubversion which no longer exists. As all Mac users are aware, MobileMe closed shop on 1 July 2012, which means that the link we have to the Mac SVN solution doesn't work. We need to find new links to Mac SVN solutions. Preferably, we need to offer solutions for people who are running various different iterations of the Mac OS X platform. CzechOut (talk) 00:04, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

[As an aside, I should point out to the above poster that there is a difference between "non tech savvy" users and "non command line savvy" users. It's possible to have never used Terminal on your Mac at all, but follow instructions until you "get it", as long as you are fairly persistent. These instructions might not be helpful to people who are "computer-phobic". But if you've got any sort of aptitude at all for following instructions, they are good enough to get you started.
