Wikimedia Mobile engineering/GeoImages

There are currently lots of articles on Wikipedia and its sister projects that are both stubs and/or lacking images. With this project we would want to use the GPS coordinates of a phone to surface articles near the user that are low in quality. The user would be presented with a list of nearby articles that need to be fixed and would be prompted to either add images or text data. We could either use the native phone camera or defer to a personal camera. Points to consider:

  • The Upload API
  • Standardization of Geo interface
  • Criteria for poor articles
  • How to extend the Android application to upload images
  • How to handle text contributions
  • Visual layout of the tool
