Hello, your wiki seems to have some problems. I hope Manual:Performance tuning is of help: there is also a couple nice puppet modules to deploy most of the tweaks in one command (or a bit more if you're not using MediaWiki-Vagrant). --Nemo 12:30, 3 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

I think you caught it before I remembered to open the http port to everyone. :) Try it again, and let me know if there are any problems. Wllm (talk) 23:22, 5 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
You should probably require CAPTCHA for registration. If you use a Wikimedia-related question "What was Wikipedia's predecessor?" or "Name one of the founders of Wikipedia" there will be no spam. πr2 (t • c) 23:59, 6 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

Good advice. I'm looking in to it now. I like the questions. Wllm (talk) 00:35, 10 July 2014 (UTC)Reply

You have granted all registered users the right to delete (someone called Test7 went on a deletion spree). This may not be such a good idea on a wiki with public registration. Also, enabling revision deletion is easy and painless (just grant two rights), see Manual:RevisionDelete. It is easy to create new groups also. πr2 (t • c) 21:19, 9 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
You're right about this, of course. But it's one of the first experiments in social dynamics on Offwiki. Can the community keep up with the vandals? Either way I can back out what the vandals have done and take away the privs. Ultimately, the motivation here is to empower the user so that we don't need very many admins. You probably are aware that some of the biggest criticisms of Wikipedia involve allegations of admin abuse. Wllm (talk) 00:35, 10 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
I think it was something interesting to test in practice. I see you've disabled it now. If you're going to re-enable it, you might consider restricting it to autoconfirmed users, but that could still be problematic, especially if $wgAutoConfirmAge is low. πr2 (t • c) 13:02, 10 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
Yeah. . . so it turns out that was a pretty painful experiment. No, the community did not keep up. I'll be relying on manual delegation of delete article privs for now. Wllm (talk) 16:45, 10 July 2014 (UTC)Reply
