Extension:Newuserlog[edit]

This may be of use, when testing your previous question yesterday I installed Extension:Newuserlog with no problems. My installation shows the Special:Version properly. i checked the scripts quickly to make sure the trailing ?> tags had been removed. Sometimes there is an issue with unseen whitespace after there which causes problems. I suggest grabbing a fresh copy of the extension and testing that. --Zven 04:24, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

LOL thanx, fixed. I *swear* I tried that, I really did! Now, let's see what I can do next to look even stupider. --Töff 05:11, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Here is a couple of ideas if you don't do it already with extensions. When I install extensions I generally install the extension directory with a version (in this case the SVN revision) then make a link to that directory e.g. >ls -l

lrwxr-xr-x    1 admin  admin       16 Feb 16 20:39 Newuserlog -> Newuserlog-30989
drwxr-xr-x    4 admin  admin      136 Feb 16 20:38 Newuserlog-30989

This means that inclusion in LocalSettings.php (require_once("$IP/extensions/Newuserlog/Newuserlog.php");) wont change for every revision patched in, and if there is a problem with a script you can use the difference engine to examine subtle differences in the code by making an article of its content and comparing diffs --Zven 07:46, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Wow, that is an awesome advanced trick. I don't think I'm ready for it yet, as my wiki is small and new, but I sure want to keep this here on my talk page for future use. Thanks! Zven, do you have tricks like this catalogued on OrganicDesign, or somewhere else? Stuff like this should not just be stashed on some random guy's talk page (i.e., mine).--Töff 18:00, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply
See Organicdesign:OD/Wikia for more information on setting up wikis with the aim of making extension patching and MediaWiki patching seemlessly, however the article needs a cleanup. There is a section on mapping multiple domains to filesystem if your interested.--Zven 21:10, 16 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Hehe, what a nice notice :-) And thanks for the quick "resolved" update. --:bdk: 00:08, 4 September 2008 (UTC)Reply

Mucking with users' settings (as Bureaucrat, of course)[edit]
