Thanks!
Thanks for all the ApiParam conversions and updates you're doing on the API pages. It's a project I really want to finish (as part of a larger project I'm working on), but life just hasn't been cooperating with me lately. I'm really happy to see someone else helping out. – Robin Hood (talk) 17:45, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
- Glad to hear it's appreciated! I'm developing around the MediaWiki API, and updating the documentation in the mean time is beneficial to both me and others. —Mainframe98 talk 17:56, 29 October 2016 (UTC)
Midwest Equity Mortgage Page
What is not acceptable by on the page? I am a Navy veteran trying to get recognition for the verifiable contributions this business makes. Beauruehl (talk) 18:20, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
- See Project:About#What MediaWiki.org is not. This is not the place for that. —Mainframe98 talk 18:22, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
- Guaranteed Rate has the exact same information on their wikipedia page along with a laundry list of other mortgage companies. Perhaps you don't like me because I am a military Veteran. Why can those companies put the exact same data we are but we cannot? Beauruehl (talk) 18:23, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
- Perhaps Wikipedia discriminates against US Military Veterans?... Beauruehl (talk) 18:23, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
- Because this is NOT Wikipedia. I don't care if your a veteran or not, and I don't see how it is relevant. It plain does not belong here. —Mainframe98 talk 18:25, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
- https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Guaranteed_Rate Beauruehl (talk) 18:25, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
- There is Grate's page on your site. Please elaborate why they can be but we cannot. Beauruehl (talk) 18:26, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
- Because you are in the wrong place! This is NOT Wikipedia. Here the software USED by Wikipedia is documented, not competing mortgage companies. —Mainframe98 talk 18:27, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
- Very odd the wikipedia page would redirect me here. Sounds like an interface obstacle... Beauruehl (talk) 18:32, 15 November 2016 (UTC)
Marking pages for deletion
Hi,
thank you for the maintenance of Toolserver namespace. I'd like to ask you to mark pages (especially templates) for deletion after ensuring that they are not transcluded and preferably not even linked from other pages, as such pages can't be simply deleted.
Thank you for your cooperation and maintenance. — Danny B. 14:02, 19 November 2016 (UTC)

Do you want to be admin? wargo (talk) 15:30, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
- I definitely would. Do you think I'm cut out to be one though? —Mainframe98 talk 15:45, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
- Yes. Write on Project:Requests. wargo (talk) 16:14, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
- Will do, thank you! —Mainframe98 talk 16:17, 12 December 2016 (UTC)
MediaWiki versions
Just wanted to comment, since I've seen you use edit summaries like this one a few times. A lot of the time, people have been using the unadorned template to indicate which version a feature was introduced in—they don't actually intend the template to mean it was unique to that version. That said, it's definitely more accurate to add the |+ to the template. Just don't be surprised if the unadorned version of it is fairly common around the wiki. :) – Robin Hood (talk) 18:51, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
- I guessed something along those lines, but since I haven't been around here for very long I wasn't sure. Thanks for clarifying! —Mainframe98 talk 19:09, 15 December 2016 (UTC)
Congrats
Congratulations on the promotion! I'm impressed you've figured out translation in so short a time...I've been around here for years and for the life of me, I still can't get a handle on it. And on that note, on API:Rollback, it's easy to miss in the diff, but I added the tags paramter, which will need translation. It's been so long since I've worked with translation, I couldn't even remember if I should be adding <translate> tags or not. (I know I'm not supposed to add the numerical tags, though.) – Robin Hood (talk) 17:35, 17 December 2016 (UTC)
- Thank you for your kind words on the Request page. Translate is quite difficult to learn as the syntax is quite confusing and the help pages need improvement. Until today I didn't understand it either, and I feel that I've barely scratched the surface. For new pages you can use Special:PagePreparation, but for existing pages, tags are added manually. API:Rollback has been marked for translation by the way. —Mainframe98 talk 17:56, 17 December 2016 (UTC)

Deletion of my sandbox
You have deleted Data:Sandbox/Ignatus/Pithagor.tab. Creating such sandboxes is encouraged in help:Tabular Data, and I think people should have sandboxes which live longer than minutes. It may possible be even in project scope since I've already referred it in a technical discussion here. Couldn't you restore it? Ignatus (talk) 19:45, 28 December 2016 (UTC)
- From what I understand from that page, users are encouraged to do so on Wikimedia Commons, instead of here, which is why I'm hesitant to restore it. I've included a copy of the source of the deleted page below:

Help:Logging_in content suggestion
Hi,
You seem to be in charge of the Help:Logging_in page here on MediaWiki. My company uses an internal wiki where the login is handled through the domain accounts. The login page on the MediaWiki software seems to default to the MediaWiki's help page. Would it make sense to put on note on the help page to mention the possibility that users on private wiki's may already have logins configured for them and they should contact their administrator for access? Sorvis (talk) 13:46, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
- Yeah, that makes sense to add that. In fact, domain accounts are used in a slightly adapted version for Wikitech, which is also part of Wikimedia so adding it also makes sense for here on Wikimedia itself. —Mainframe98 talk 13:49, 31 January 2017 (UTC)
- Thank you I went a head and wrote up some text as a starting place. https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Logging_in#Creating_an_account Sorvis (talk) 15:10, 31 January 2017 (UTC)

question about spam or promotional
Hi,
yesterday, i was proud to write my first page. the page i try to build is strictly to promote collaboration with co-worker of other health and welfare (gouvernement of Québec, Canada) to write rules for us. we are not lucrative and i don't sell nothing. the main idea is to promote quality and organisation of what we do, for us, and then share it with people that have similar goals. and learn from them!
if it is not permitted here, please tell me, at this time, i though i was at the good place
thank you
Marc-André Conseil multidisciplinaire du CCSMTL (talk) 12:59, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- As Project:About states, MediaWiki.org is for documentation related to the MediaWiki software itself. It is not a place to place projects unrelated to MediaWiki. You'd be better off creating/requesting a wiki on one of the many available Hosting services. —Mainframe98 talk 13:12, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
- hi,
- yes, this is what i am reading right now, thank you
- i was first referred here by coworker but didn't read that limitation. i am learning. thank you. Conseil multidisciplinaire du CCSMTL (talk) 13:21, 5 February 2017 (UTC)
Constant vandalism with translations User:WEWO
Need to disable and nuke this account's edits - abusing translations to vandalize pages DSquirrelGM𝓣𝓟𝓒 20:29, 27 February 2017 (UTC)
Done Thanks for the message. —Mainframe98 talk 20:34, 27 February 2017 (UTC)- just wish I could have directly reverted the edits - but it was locked out due to being a translated page, which makes no sense whatsoever. DSquirrelGM𝓣𝓟𝓒 20:36, 27 February 2017 (UTC)
- That's the tricky part of the translation system, you have to revert the edits to the pages in the Translation: namespace, which can be found on the user's contribution page. A revert-all button would be loads easier though. —Mainframe98 talk 20:39, 27 February 2017 (UTC)
This seems a lot more like being used as a soapbox, instead of either a temporary work area or actual user info. DSquirrelGM𝓣𝓟𝓒 21:06, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
- Not entirely sure whether this warrants a permanent block or not, but certainly needs a response of some sort. DSquirrelGM𝓣𝓟𝓒 21:07, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
- I've left a message after I've deleted the posts. Blocking wouldn't initially do much good, because they are only active on their talk page, so they wouldn't have any way to respond to the block. I (or someone else) can always block them later if necessary. Thanks for the message! —Mainframe98 talk 21:27, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
- For future reference, is there a general report page or link I should be using instead of talk pages? I didn't see an option anywhere on talk pages regarding an "inppropriate content" report button or link. DSquirrelGM𝓣𝓟𝓒 21:38, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
- Unfortunately, not. Well there's Project:Requests, but that's mainly for the non-urgent stuff. I suppose you could ask around on IRC, but I'm not active there, nor do I have any idea what channels you'd have to use. —Mainframe98 talk 22:13, 28 February 2017 (UTC)
- I don't like using IRC for a few reasons, such as ease of spoofing, and more importantly the lack of persistent storage for later review of postings made while you're offline, as you find on services such as Slack or Discord. I appreciate your quick responses here, anyway :) DSquirrelGM𝓣𝓟𝓒 22:17, 28 February 2017 (UTC)

Mentioned this on the talk pages for the messages a number of days ago, no response
Special:WhatLinksHere/File:Clock and warning.svg
These two pages need to have the links on the image disabled (the cached page messages).
add |link= to the file references. DSquirrelGM𝓣𝓟𝓒 20:51, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
- I can do that, but I'm curious what the point of doing so would be. Is there any specific reason we need to disable the link? —Mainframe98 talk 21:07, 5 March 2017 (UTC)
- More a matter of avoiding misclicks on links, and it's not linking to any useful information, just being intended as an icon. Just one of those potential navigation pains, especially if using a keyboard to navigate the page. It tends to be one of my pet peeves to have a link to an image when it's not actually intended to be a thumbnail or link to another article. DSquirrelGM𝓣𝓟𝓒 21:12, 5 March 2017 (UTC)

- Not that I can think of, right now. I do recall that there were issues with InstantCommons with http/https, so if you spot any of those, it would be great if you could verify that those are set to https. Other than those, I can't think of any. —Mainframe98 talk 19:35, 6 March 2017 (UTC)

Extension:LDAP Authentication
Do you not understand the problem or do you not understand the code?
The extension's "AutoAuth" (Kerberos) functionality does not work with AuthManager. The gerrit link even shows this: look at file 2 line 150. It throws an error that explicitly says that "AutoAuth" is not supported!
Why would you just point to the gerrit that proves exactly what the '''very important''' notification on the extension wiki page says! I've wasted hours on this issue and if you would have looked at other complaints in the Talk page, you would have noticed that I am not the only one.
It is misleading to remove the '''important notice'''!! Keep the notification on the page to not let other people waste time trying to fix something that is broken/incomplete. 203.144.93.226 (talk) 15:34, 10 March 2017 (UTC)
- LdapAuthentication.php
- Line 150
- throw new BadFunctionCallException( 'AutoAuthSetup() is not supported with AuthManager.'...
- Unbelievable.. or is this issue being covered because such an important piece of functionality not working is an embarrassment for MediaWiki? 203.144.93.226 (talk) 16:25, 10 March 2017 (UTC)

Been considering that I should probably start to write up a user page, but I've got one particular question before I start: Should I include links to the primary wiki hosts I visit and edit regularly? Wasn't too sure if that'd fall under "advertising" or not. DSquirrelGM𝓣𝓟𝓒 01:57, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
- As long as you just link to their main page/your user page there, it shouldn't be a problem. You wouldn't be advertising, just letting people know where else you can be found, like I've done on my user page. —Mainframe98 talk 06:34, 13 March 2017 (UTC)
Mark Help:Pickle for translation?

Why can be a civil and constructive user talk page edit a clear vandalism edit ? 83.28.60.106 (talk) 16:42, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
- I don't see how an excess of exclamation points is considered civil. —Mainframe98 talk 16:44, 10 July 2017 (UTC)
Pages for deletion
Are such pages like this, this and this kept here? I'd say they should be deleted per Project:About#What_MediaWiki.org_is_not. XXN (talk) 13:19, 15 July 2017 (UTC)
- They'd be bordering. In my opinion, as they are MediaWiki families with extensions created by them that are quite popular, they should be kept. —Mainframe98 talk 16:00, 15 July 2017 (UTC)
Testing MediaWiki features
should be allowed in the _personal_ space Graphoid (talk) 16:30, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
- Then test there, and not in the main space. Also consider visiting an actual testing wiki, such as Test Wikipedia and Test 2 Wikipedia. See also Project:About#What MediaWiki.org is not. —Mainframe98 talk 16:53, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
- BTW: Do you know anyone proficient in doing maps with <graph>? Graphoid (talk) 17:49, 17 July 2017 (UTC)
- Looking at the extension page and the list of contributors, I'd say that would be User:Yurik. —Mainframe98 talk 17:55, 17 July 2017 (UTC)

Problems
- Some pages show the error
Lua error in mw.wikibase.entity.lua at line 34: The entity data must be a table obtained via mw.wikibase.getEntityObject. This problem happens on pages with a Lua module that uses Wikidata. The developers are working on fixing the problem. You can fix a page by opening it for editing and then saving without changing anything. [19] - Wikidata and German Wikipedia could not be edited for an hour on 28 July. You can read why and how we could avoid it in the future in the incident report.
Changes later this week
- Some wikis already have the larger and brighter OOjs UI edit page buttons. All remaining wikis except Commons will have these from 1 August. [20]
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 1 August. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 2 August. It will be on all wikis from 3 August (calendar).
Meetings
You can join the next meeting with the Editing team. During the meeting, you can tell developers which bugs you think are the most important. The meeting will be on 1 August at 19:00 (UTC). See how to join.
Future changes
- The default font in the edit window will soon change for some users. Instead of using the browser default it will be monospace. Users can change this in their preferences. This should only change this for some users on Macs and iOS devices. [21]

A question on translate tags
Regarding Special:Diff/2538084, why does Translate need tags between T:9 and T:7 but not between T:10 and T:14, T:14 and T:15, or T:15 and T:13 in the same section? I'd like to understand so I can avoid removing the close-open pairs in cases where they're necessary in the future.
Thanks. Anomie (talk) 13:22, 16 August 2017 (UTC)
- Translate doesn't like it when multiple messages are within the same translation tags, unless it determined upon first marking the page for translation that those units could fit there. I've tried foregoing those tags on another page and the extension threw a hissy fit at attempting to save, claiming that those two translation units couldn't coexist. Perhaps they can be removed, but if it's not broken, I'd rather not touch it, in fear that I might break it by merely suggesting it. —Mainframe98 talk 13:27, 16 August 2017 (UTC)
- So there's no editor-visible reason for requiring tags in the one situation and not the other, it depends on some invisible state stored by the extension? Anomie (talk) 13:29, 16 August 2017 (UTC)
- That's my conclusion. Well either that or 'magic'. —Mainframe98 talk 13:45, 16 August 2017 (UTC)

Hello!
I have to thank you for editing and contributing with MwSSE page, it looks better now :-)
I have one question, the line in LocalSettings.php you commented out (deleted):
$wgHooks['AuthManagerLoginAuthenticateAudit'][] = 'MwSSEHooks::onlogBadLogin';
without that line, I'm having an error at the login page:

- The extension is broken. Adding
$wgHooks['AuthManagerLoginAuthenticateAudit'][] = 'MwSSEHooks::onlogBadLogin';will not help and this line should be provided by the extension itself. Instead, you should modify line 15 of the extension.json file on in the extension folder from"MwSSE::onlogBadLogin"to"MwSSEHooks::onlogBadLogin". —Mainframe98 talk 17:54, 14 September 2017 (UTC)- Thank you!

Occitan instead of Catalan
Hi. I've mistakenly made my Catalan translation in the Occitan subpage VisualEditor/Portal/oc. To start solving the mess, I've already copied the Catalan text over to the right Catalan subpage. Should an administrator delete my wrong contributions in the Occitan subpage or something? Thanks. Recared (talk) 11:35, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
- I’ll delete the Occitan translation, since it never contained any translations to begin with. In other circumstances, we usually delete the individual translations. Thanks for letting me know. —Mainframe98 talk 11:43, 5 November 2017 (UTC)
- OK. Thank you. Recared (talk) 11:47, 5 November 2017 (UTC)

However, ShoutWiki still offers the skin, so you might want to consider moving to Shoutwiki.com. —Mainframe98 talk 05:53, 27 November 2017 (UTC)

Recent changes
- Bureaucrats on Wikimedia wikis where the Translate extension is installed can now add and remove the translation administrator permission by default. Administrators of wikis where this extension is enabled can add and remove this permission to or from themselves. Wikis that used a different configuration before have not changed. [36]
There is a new Discourse test support channel for Wikimedia developers. You can ask questions or answer others questions about MediaWiki and Wikimedia software development. [37]
Problems
- Last week's MediaWiki update was rolled back. This was because of a bug that changed non-ASCII characters when a page was edited. [38][39]
Changes later this week
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 16 January. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 17 January. It will be on all wikis from 18 January (calendar).

Future changes
A few hundred wikis with less than ten high-priority errors in Linter categories will switch to use the Remex parsing library. This is to replace Tidy. It will happen on 31 January. Other wikis will be recommended to switch soon when they have fixed the errors that must be fixed. Tidy will be removed in the middle of 2018. [40][41]

Tech News: 2018-06
Latest tech news from the Wikimedia technical community. Please tell other users about these changes. Not all changes will affect you. Translations are available.
Recent changes
- Bureaucrats can now add and remove the accountcreator permission by default. This means the user can help create a large number of accounts, for example for an editathon. Wikis can change this if they want to. [42]
- The Wikidata vandalism dashboard is a new tool to monitor vandalism on Wikidata labels and descriptions. It is filtered by language. [43]
- Info pages for file pages now show the file's SHA1 hash value in the table of basic information. This is so users can see that the file is the same as the one they uploaded. [44]
Problems
- Special:Export has a higher error rate right now. This means that the export does not always work. You should check to make sure your page exports worked. The developers are working on fixing this. [45]
Changes later this week
- When you review an edit made with the visual editor you can check a visual diff of your changes besides the wikitext diff. If you pick one diff type it will remember and show you that in future. The visual diff will now be the type first shown to new users. [46]
- When you use a gallery to show images you can define the size, like
gallery widths="150px". You could useemor%instead ofpxbut it would make no difference. You can now only use150pxor nothing (150). If you write something else, instead of treating it likepx, it will not work. [47] - The wording when you send a thanks message will change. Instead of
YesorNoit will sayThankandCancel. It will also be easier to understand that all thanks are public. [48] - Redirects connected to Wikidata can create double Wikidata items. There will now be a tracking category for this. Wikis that don't want it can disable it. [49]
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 6 February. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 7 February. It will be on all wikis from 8 February (calendar).

Recent changes
- TemplateStyles has been deployed to the Swedish Wikipedia. TemplateStyles is a feature to make it easy to add CSS to templates without administrator privileges. This allows for better adaptability to screen sizes, especially on mobile where are half our total page views. If your community would like to be the next to have the feature, please submit a task on Phabricator. [52][53][54]
- Registration pages now collect keyboard/mouse usage information for research on identifying spambots.
Changes later this week
- You can opt in to a new beta feature that lets you use visual diffs on history pages. [55]
- The visual editor shows and lets you edit templates in one way, and reference lists in another. This meant that templates that only contain a fake reference list, like
{{reflist}}, would not get updated as you edited. Now they will update as you edit, but you will no longer be able to visually edit them as templates. [56] - The abuse filter extension has a new feature
contains_allthat you may use to check if one or more strings are all contained in another given string. [57]

Everything else, including food, drinks, extension chords, sound system, shelter, candy, art, hugs, clothing, music, fire safety (please follow the instructions from the fire safety leads), common sense, cleaning, loving and dancing will be up to Crème Brûlée participants to offer == Leave No Trace == Please take everything you bring to the event back home with you or deposit in the trash containers placed at the entrance provided by org: pack it in, pack it out – every last tiny scrap. Never ever let trash hit the ground, but clean up as You go. If it is your cigarette butt, beer can or decoration, it goes in your car home. Make sure you check the ground where you camped or where your art piece has been. == Commerce == You cannot buy, sell or barter anything. Crème Brûlée is a place of sharing and free exchange within a gift economy. A real gift is given and received without any expectation of reciprocation. That said, don’t feel expected to give, or receive, what you cannot or will not. == Bring Your Own Cup == Bring and take responsibility for your own cup, bowl and cuttlery. There might be many participants offering food or drinks and if all of them bring disposable utensils it adds unnecessary strain on both our event and our planet. BYOC solves this problem. == Cars == Cars that are not essential part of the art and creativity (except mutant vehicles/art cars). They should be parked in the designated parking area. Other cars are allowed to enter once to speedily unload and once to collect stuff and must then leave the spot after. == Personal Safety == You are responsible for You. Come prepared to confront and be responsible for your own survival. It’s dark at night on the festival site — stay safe: illuminate yourself and your artwork at night. == Fire Guidlines == It's not allowed with small fires close to the camping area. BBQ are only allowed in designated areas. In case of doubt ask fire security or super heros teams Make sure fire extinguishers are strategically placed around the event grounds. If you have a big kitchen a fire extinguisher is required. == Sound == Sound should stay in sound camps. Be thoughtful of your neighbors. == Laws == Crème Brûlée is a closed, private event on private land, only accessible for the members of our non-profit organization. This requires us to reject non-registered members, to be able to follow the laws of a non-public event. The event is nevertheless subject to all French law. Police can enter or visit The Borderland, and you risk being cited and/or arrested if you are caught breaking the law. Under French law does the use of illegal drugs is forbidden. == Public Boundaries == The area we are using is not fenced off, so it is possible for uninvited members of the public to wander into. If you encounter any outsider in the event area kindly explain to them that this is a private event on private land and ask them to leave. It might happen that local people pass through the border road to go to the river : do respect their right to do so. Do not enter the neighbours private property. Please note that the swimming area at the river is public and neighbors might use it. Respect other users. == Registrations == This is a closed event and every participants must be a registered, paying member of our non profit organization to be able to attend. Everyone will be checked in by name at the gate. Bring an idea. By registering as a member are you also legally bound to the Event Participation Agreement. If you see someone not wearing a wrist band, please ask them to leave. == Consent == We believe that consent plays a vital part in our connectivity and community. Ensure all sides are mutually consensual prior to physical encounters (ie touching someones arm, hugging, groping, spanking). Consent must be clearly granted from an individual who is clearly in control of their faculties enough to grant it. Only a clear yes is a yes.

Dear Mainframe98
Can you please re-enable both pages, so I don't need to rewrite them. They contain some crucial info regarding msyql which are not embedded in these pages Manual:Running MediaWiki on Debian or Ubuntu. This page Manual:Running MediaWiki on Debian or Ubuntu is also not accurate enough anymore.

- Then why not update Manual:Running MediaWiki on Debian or Ubuntu instead? This way the wiki ends up having way to many pages all covering the same subject. Content of both pages has been included below:

Wikifarm help
I saw you contribute some family setup. I want to setup my won family same as wikipedia and a wikidata site for my wiki family. Can I get help from you to build my family? Thanks. Nirmol360 (talk) 19:44, 17 May 2018 (UTC)
- I'm a bit strapped for time these days, so I can't promise anything. Is there anything specific you need help with?
- Regardless, as a first I need an overview of what you want.
- How is your database set up? Is it possible to have a separate database for each wiki?
- What domain name possibilities do you have? Do you have one single domain, or do you have the possibility to use subdomains (similar to how Wikipedia does this?)
- What is the general layout you had in mind? Wikipedia has a large amount of wiki groups in their family. Do you wish to have multiple individual languages, or just a wikidata wiki and a wiki with multiple language sub domains?
- I also have some information on User:Mainframe98/Wiki Family that might help you. —Mainframe98 talk 09:52, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
- My answers bellow:
- Yes, it's possible to have a separate database for each wiki.
- I have my own domain and possible to use as *atheistpedia.org
- I want to create my wikis like $lang.atheistpedia.org, a commonswiki for media as media.atheistpedia.org after all an wikidata as data.atheistpedia.org; at now I want to use en, bn & hi as $lang code. I read your family documentation but I understand quiet. Nirmol360 (talk) 10:39, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
- Thank you, this matches something I've built in the near past. There's only one slight issue, of which I can't find any documentation about: naming the commonswiki media might be problematic since media is a reserved namespace name. Using media for a commonswiki, will prevent using interwiki links, as they would clash with the media namespace. Another issue you might run into is that the wiki will be named mediawiki internally, and I believe that's recommended against.
- I've written an example at User:Mainframe98/Wiki Family/Example. That page outlines the basic setup that your wiki family would use. —Mainframe98 talk 15:41, 19 May 2018 (UTC)
- Thanks, but setting up by this way giving 500 header. Currently I running this site in a shared hosting and SSh not exist. I think for this the problem is happening here. So, I'm still running this site in separate folder installation for each wiki and following the documentation giving at wiki family. I hope I can run this site if CentralAuth extension successfully installation done. I can use your example when the site transfer to a VPS. What you thinking about? - @Mainframe98 I pre configured the code, please look up at this if there have any wrong.

- Editors who use Firefox to edit with the visual editor had a problem with copying text. When they tried to select text that included footnotes, templates or block images in the middle they would often only get part of the text. This has now been fixed. [62]
- Some maps didn't work for a while on 8 March. This has been fixed. [63][64]
Changes later this week
The new version of MediaWiki will be on test wikis and MediaWiki.org from 12 March. It will be on non-Wikipedia wikis and some Wikipedias from 13 March. It will be on all wikis from 14 March (calendar).

Deleted pages?
Multilingual Templates and Modules quickstart guide states creation of pages which you have deleted. Kindly advise on the same. Capankajsmilyo (talk) 08:26, 25 April 2019 (UTC)
- I wasn't aware of that project - I'll restore the templates, and ask those responsible to inform the community.
- As for the reasoning - we've had quite a lot of trouble with users unaware that they're not on Wikipedia, and the reoccurring pattern there is the use of the infobox person. —Mainframe98 talk 08:29, 25 April 2019 (UTC)

Archiving extensions
Hi Mainframe, if it's not too much trouble, when you archive extensions (or skins) on MediaWiki.org, could you please also file an archival task on Phabricator for them? You can use this form to do so. Thanks! =) 「ディノ奴千?!」☎ Dinoguy1000 04:06, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
- The extensions I've archived so far were all
- Extensions which host their code in-wiki
- . There wouldn't be any point in creating a task, as there wouldn't be anything to do outside MediaWiki.org. Once I'll get to
- Not LTS ready extensions
- that don't host code on wiki, I'll create the tasks where necessary. —Mainframe98 talk 10:42, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
- Many of those extensions will have pages on Wikidata that need to be updated to indicate the extensions' archival, actually. (though just that wouldn't require the full archival task for each extension, granted). 「ディノ奴千?!」☎ Dinoguy1000 20:48, 5 May 2019 (UTC)
Please don't erase our homework :(
You wiped our page called Proyecto Integrador Lomas Verdes. We need to create a wiki as a project. Please don't erase it, I beg you LMichelleBallesterosM (talk) 16:48, 22 May 2019 (UTC)
- Please see Project:About#What MediaWiki.org is not.
- In short: you're at the wrong place. —Mainframe98 talk 16:50, 22 May 2019 (UTC)
- Same thing happened to me. I had my page, that I worked for 4 hours, deleted instantly. I wanted to make a page on Fanlore, but somehow I got redirected here so I said ''great, lets do it''. What would have been nice is to at least get the text back to remake the page on Fanlore, where I wanted to make it in the first place and not waste everything.
- Seems I'm not the only one at the wrong place. So can I get the page back to copy-paste the text? Aaronnnss (talk) 09:30, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
- I can't seem to find any content that you have created here - had there been any, I would've provided you with a copy. Do you have a page name?
- I'm also curious to know what linked you to mediawiki.org, so we might prevent people from being sent to the wrong place. —Mainframe98 talk 09:32, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
- Hey!
- The page is Sharesome. I honestly don't know if I even had an account here when I first made the page here.
- What happened is I clicked on Help:Editing pages on Fanlore and I got redirected to Mediawiki so I assumed it's ok. Plus, the editor is so much better.
- Then I naturally clicked Help:Starting a new page and I followed the steps. If i try to make a new page with the same name (Sharesome) it warns me that the page has been deleted.
- So now I can see the confusion. It doesn't let you know that the page you are about to create will be on Media Wiki and not Fanlore.
- Thanks! Aaronnnss (talk) 09:39, 13 June 2019 (UTC)
- Ah, that's why I couldn't find it - it was created anonymously. Anyways, this is the content of the page before it was deleted:

Recent changes
- When you create a PDF from a page on the wiki this is now done by Proton. Before this we used Electron. It should look the same but work better. Both use Chromium. This is a different system from when you collect several articles into a book and make a PDF from them. [65][66]
- The Flagged Revisions extension now uses the standard OOUI icons. There will be additional minor fixes for positioning in the next deployment. [67]
Bots and other scripts that do not set an identifiable User-Agent may find their requests strictly rate-limited until they identify themselves properly. [68]
Problems
- Please check if the Flagged Revisions configuration on your wiki is as you expect (or as it was a few weeks ago). If not, please report it. [69]

translating HTMLForm
Hi, concerning HTMLForm can you please ave a look at https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Talk%3AHTMLForm#h-preparing_pages_for_translation-2019-07-29T13%3A57%3A00.000Z Thanks.

Translate tags
Some of the translate admins put the additional tags in, some take them out. I've translated a lot, and my impression is that smaller text fragments is easier to translate, and especially section headers and other markup should NOT be part of unrelated text. In short; what you have done here [70] is wrong. I'm going to leave it as this, but I believe it creates a mess. Jeblad (talk) 15:17, 25 August 2019 (UTC)
- My experience is that the translate extension will pick out individual blocks by itself. Only if smaller text fragments are explicitly needed, then one would add additional tags.
- Looking at https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Special:PageTranslation&target=Extension%3AExpect&do=mark, with my version, all individual sentences are separate translation units. Each header is also a separate translation unit. There would be no difference between the previous version and mine.
- Of course, since this is your extension, and by extension (no pun intended) your extension page, feel free to make adjustments where you see fit; I'll gladly mark it for translation when finished. —Mainframe98 talk 15:28, 25 August 2019 (UTC)
Extension:PortableInfobox
Hi! Thank you for completing my request. I'm not sure if you're aware, but I can't save any translations to this page. When I'm trying to submit message on Special:Translate, all I see is "This namespace is reserved for content page translations. The page you are trying to edit does not seem to correspond any page marked for translation." error message. Could you look into this and help?
Thanks again and sorry, Rail01 (talk) 16:29, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
- To which language are you trying to translate? I added some translations for Dutch (Extension:PortableInfobox/nl), but can't reproduce your error. Also: Does this happen with a specific translation unit? —Mainframe98 talk 16:45, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
- Everything seems fine since your edit. I'm not sure what caused that but now I can translate page (po Polish). Rail01 (talk) 16:47, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
- I did mark the page for translation after the image was added, maybe that's all that was necessary for the translate extension to start working again. —Mainframe98 talk 16:49, 9 September 2019 (UTC)
Remove to allow marking main category for translation
Hi! Are you sure deleting Category:Firefox Extensions/de was necessary? I marked many pages for translation (as a translation admin on Commons) that had sometimes dozens of language subpages, and it had always worked—FuzzyBot simply overwrites the content, but otherwise leaves the page intact, and doesn’t prevent the marking process. Tacsipacsi (talk) 15:19, 25 January 2020 (UTC)
- What doesn’t work (it’s a long-standing regression), however, is that pages don’t immediately become translatable. Please mark Category:Firefox Extensions for translation once more—the double marking seems to do the trick and make pages really translatable. Tacsipacsi (talk) 15:22, 25 January 2020 (UTC)
- I haven't had much experience with converting existing translations (e.g. using
{{languages}}instead of the Translate syntax), but the few cases I had to deal with were messy. This seemed the easiest solution, given it was only one page. - I've marked the page for translation again, hopefully it will work now. —Mainframe98 talk 15:30, 25 January 2020 (UTC)
- OK, so nothing concrete. 🙂 Then I’ll continue to keep translations when converting pages. (I’m sure to have converted several dozens of Commons templates using various legacy i18n methods, and there licensing issues arise from deleting old pages. Luckily here don’t.) Tacsipacsi (talk) 15:41, 25 January 2020 (UTC)
- Most of the legacy language pages here should be fairly easy to convert, if you have the time. Thanks for going through the effort! Let me know if you need anything marked for translation. —Mainframe98 talk 15:51, 25 January 2020 (UTC)

sandbox
hi.
i saw your deletion of Template:Tstest/Testts2.css. the summary said "Test, please use the sandbox"
i do not necessarily object the deletion - tbh, can't recall what or why. the fact it appeared in my watchlist is a strong indicator i created this in the first place, but i was not really aware of its existence, and if i was indeed the creator, i totally forgot about it.
however, the summary is wrong and not helpful: this was a "templatestyle" page, and such pages are special, in that the templatestyles extension will only take pages which are "subpages" (i.e., contain slash as part of the name) in the Template namespace.
so the deletion might have been a good thing, but the rationale was completely wrong - it's not possible to use sandbox for testing templatestyles.
if you know differently, please teach me - i'll be more than happy to learn how to test templaktestyles other than creating a "subpage" to a template.
peace. קיפודנחש (talk) 21:19, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
- on 2nd look, this test was indeed useful - it taught me that it's not enough for a templatestyle to exist in Template: namespace for it to work - it _must_ also be a subpage...
- (not sure if the page above the subpage must also exist, but i guess that if i want to test it, i won't do it here... :)
- peace קיפודנחש (talk) 21:24, 1 May 2020 (UTC)
- In hindsight, I should've used a different deletion message; one that links to testwiki:.
- However, back in 2018, TemplateStyles might not have been available there, and this wiki would've been the only place to test it.
- In any event, tests like Template:Tstest/Testts2.css aren't really an issue; there isn't a specific enough deletion message to indicate that. —Mainframe98 talk 07:34, 2 May 2020 (UTC)
- sorry for being petty. it really has no significance, and in hindsight, as you say, i shouldn't have wasted your time.
- i guess i was just a bit surprised - tbh, i totally forgot about this little experiment, and when i saw the deletion i was not even sure if i was the one who created it...
- peace. קיפודנחש (talk) 07:58, 2 May 2020 (UTC)

Hello again
Hey Mainframe, it's been a long time since we last interacted. I need a bit of help trying to get your wiki-family example to work. I believe I'm up to about step 3 or 4 as listed in your github project. However, I am getting a HTTP 500 error when I try to visit the "meta wiki". And I get this relevant message when trying to use update.php in the command line:
PHP Notice: Undefined variable: wgDBName in /var/www/html/w/CommonSettings.php on line 80

I was fascinated by this method due to the less complex nature than some other methods, namely the CentralAuth extension. I believe we are also friends on Discord so if you have any spare time would you be willing to help me? Thank you.
