I haven't looked deeper at the other GSoC applications, but this is certainly very interesting in that it lowers the bar to translations immensely and thus has real (outside) impact. One thing though after glancing at trunk: Rather than blog and twitter, please spend the time documenting your code :-). Progress reports are certainly important for your mentor to see how you get along, but the rest of the world will probably encounter your code for the first time in some months or years and then appreciate if they do not have to turn to other sources to understand the process flow. Looking forward to localize India roadway.

Sometime back, I tried to localize commons:File:India_roadway_map.svg using https://toolserver.org/~jarry/svgtranslate/ and it failed and didnt bother to bug since it was a complex case. May be this could be a test case for your GSoC work if it aint that complex. It would be amazing to localize this wonderful map. Looking forward to your work and Congrats!
