Hello, it's been a while :) Would you be able to finish translating this instruction? This will be the last prototype of the Desktop Improvements. Thank you!

HirnSpuk (talkcontribs)

Sorry, I'm quite busy at the moment. Do you have a deadline? Best regards, HirnSpuk

SGrabarczuk (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Hello! Thank you again for translating that page. I'm sorry I never replied about the deadline. Usually, my deadlines are "about a week; if you're comfortable, less than a week". This is also the case with this page. Do you think you could finish this translation? I'd like the German-language Wikipedia community to be informed that we're nearing the end of the Desktop Improvements project, and the difficult discussions about the launch as the default are right ahead of us.

SGrabarczuk (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Hello. I've left a reply to your comment on the project talk page. I hope when you read the reply, you'd also have some spare time to take a look at the updated version of the message, and perhaps translate it? Anyway, if you'd like to continue that conversation, let's keep it on the talk page.

Thank you!

HirnSpuk (talkcontribs)

@User:SGrabarczuk (WMF) Yes, I've seen and read it, thank you very much for your elaborate explanations! I'd like to continue conversation and, given your consideration for my thoughts, help, but sadly I'm really really straitened for time right now. So I'm just replying here, to let you know, it'll take a little time for me to react or do work. I took a quick look at the updated version, thanks for taking my thoughts into account. I think it looks better with the given explanations, though it's still leaving the impression of a "choice" and I'm still concerned about some things (e. g. "Improve the discovery of new content (measured by an increase in searching)" – sure, this is Discovery-Improvement and not necessity to find things that aren't where they supposed to be?). I'll answer in detail on the talk page, when I'll find the time. Best regards

The page is already translated? I checked the translation and changed some minor things. What I've noticed and couldn't correct:

  • Link to FAQ doesn't go to the german version
  • in some links I added the hint, that the follow-up page is english, though I did not check every link.
  • The online-Meeting seems to be a bit far in the future
  • The signature is not properly translated especially necessary for the "...feel free to start a conversation with the community and contact me."-Part

Regards, HirnSpuk

I would've appreciated a more sincere apology. I invested time for this and just getting an: "Oh, I'm sorry..."? I translated the other site and find the invitation to the online-meeting a bit short notice (which was the reason to do it actually)!

The points:

  • I did not check every link for a language hint
  • the signature is not properly translated

still are a problem.

I once said, I'm impressed with your work. I apologize, I can't say the same this time. I'd kindly ask for more time and more attention to detail next time, thanks. Regards HirnSpuk

SGrabarczuk (WMF) (talkcontribs)

I read your comment twice. You're right, I understand. My apologies. Next time, I'll inform you with a longer notice.

What do you mean by "the signature is not properly translated", exactly? Is it possible to fix this problem by translating this part using different words, or should I change something in the English version?

HirnSpuk (talkcontribs)

Thanks a lot.

Regarding the signature, I wasn't aware, that you were going to use it just as a template. The entry shows up well in german wikibooks. I thought the page will be used stand-alone, then the signature would have been missing. But obviously that's not the problem I thought it would :-).

To the other thing... Maybe the time-constraint wasn't on your hand? And reading "(WMF)" always looks like "paid", does it really mean that? So I felt a little upset by feeling forced to use my (free) time, to solve your (paid, as I assumed) problem. But I must admit, that is nothing more than an assumption on my behalf, that I shouldn't feel free to make. I apologize for that. If you'd like and find the time, please be invited to explain more to me. Sometimes I find the wikimedia-structure highly confusing, not knowing who does what, when and why. This might lead to this kind of misunderstandings.

Regards HirnSpuk

Hello! Would you be able to translate this announcement? I will post it on Wikivoyage in German.

By the way, do you think Wikibooks in German would like to get Desktop Improvements as default?

If you'd like to follow updates about the project, subscribe to our newsletter.

Thank you!

HirnSpuk (talkcontribs)

@SGrabarczuk (WMF), I'm sorry I was unable to perform to my wishes for a few days and might be for a few more. So sorry, I couldn't help.

I did ask the german Wikibooks-community about the default-variant and will report feedback in about a month. Thanks for asking.

BTW, may I ask if you know if I'm able to disable this threaded discussion page? I like the old style discussions better. Thanks and best wishes

SGrabarczuk (WMF) (talkcontribs)

No problem, I've asked someone else. Volunteers have right to be unavailable :)

Thank you, I'll be waiting for the community's reaction. If they need more information, feel free to ping me!

This should be possible... @Trizek (WMF), do you know the magic spell undoing Flow?

Trizek (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Flow is the default discussing system at mediawiki.org. I'm not sure if it is allowed to change it on a user talk page.
