Regarding GSOC project mentor

Hi

I am interested on working on the project- "Allow smoother and easier Wikimedia Commons pictures discovery". I have used and customized lightbox for my previous project - http://www.goopybagha.info/loby.php. I would like to contribute to wiki pictures and make it more user friendly. My coding skills- C,C++ and Java. Web development skills- PHP, CSS, Javascript.

Thanks, Shondhi Singhal shondhi.singhal@gmail.com

Mentor signup

You mentioned that you'd be willing to mentor for Google Code-In. Since we aren't doing that, are you interested in mentoring the Outreach Program for Women in January-March 2013? Thanks. Sharihareswara (WMF) (talk) 12:21, 5 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Outreach program for Women

Hello there,

My name is ketaki from India. I have completed my Masters (MBA) in Human Resources. I came across this outreach program for Women.

I am very interested in the same, but I do not have ant programming knowledge.

Is there any project for non- technical person.

Kindly revert, looking forward.

Hello,
You would maybe be interested by this marketing possibility:
Find vendors for MediaWiki
The independent consultants and other companies that benefit from customizing and reselling MediaWiki would benefit from cross-pollination, referrals, upstreaming their patches, and recruiting. Can you find those vendors, find out what they need from "upstream" (the developers of MediaWiki core and extensions), and start translating those requests into continuing collaboration?
Things you might need to know: English prose, web research skills.

E:User_Merge_and_Delete - Why have you marked it as incompatible ?

Hi,

in https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Extension:User_Merge_and_Delete&oldid=617841 you added an information that the extension is incompatible with the 1.20 release.

Please can you tell me, why you think so, or send me more information ?

Hello,
I mentioned a bug reported twice in the page history and the edit summary:
Bugzilla:39470.
If you consider the code is up to date and, this bug apart, all works fine, please remove the banner, the mention in known issues for the problem is enough. --Dereckson (talk) 16:48, 1 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for you swift reply. Okay, I added the reason to the template. Personally, I do not regard it as a blocker justifying such a strict formulated warning, but other users may do so. This is why I kept the warning banner, and will try to find some spare time in the very near future to fix this bug.

Just as a question: can you help and suggest a fix which I then will deploy?

Nimbus

Pay attention. Here you say "the categories links are broken, they don't lead to current categories URL scheme, demonstrating the abandoned state of the extension" but the categories are broken on that wiki. This is the cause for which the categories links are broken. Not for the abandoned state of the extension. So? Raoli (talk) 02:31, 16 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

If you would actively maintain an extension, you'd update its configuration, and so the links, wouldn't you?
Add the fact the author never replied to maintainership offer... --Dereckson (talk) 02:38, 16 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Yes, ye. You're right but I wanted to use it because it seemed like a novelty on a wiki. That's it. --Raoli (talk) 03:38, 16 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
You could find a developer, invite him to contribute to MediaWiki and offer him to build something more useful like this:
http://poulpy.blogspot.be/2008/02/nuage-de-tags.html
I will be happy to help him for MediaWiki-specific aspects. --Dereckson (talk) 15:10, 16 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

--Dereckson (talk) 20:14, 2 April 2013 (UTC)Reply

Manual:SQLite

Could you list some extensions that aren't compatible with SQLite? As-is someone deciding whether to use SQLite has no idea what won't work. There's no basis to find and fix extensions that don't support SQLite. And no basis to determine when that statement has become false. The manual basically ends up using weasel words. Daniel Friesen (Dantman) (talk) 22:54, 1 October 2013 (UTC)Reply

I know 4 of them:
  • Echo (I'm adding you to Gerrit changes 87022 for a fix already ready, but it depends of a core modification I didn't finish while I were away.)
  • AbuseFilter ( bug:43507 )
  • LQT ( bug:39064 )
  • FlaggedRevs ( bug:37921 )

Google Code-in: are you in?

Hi, a year ago you were interested in mentoring at Google Code-In. This week we are working on a proposal to participate this year (the deadline to submit proposals is October 28). We are basically compiling tasks for Code-in students and recruiting mentors for tasks and meta-mentors for areas. If you are interested get involved now. Thank you! --Qgil (talk) 23:09, 21 October 2013 (UTC)Reply
