Wikipedia Education Program[edit]

Hi, Daniel! I noticed your change to your userpage. Are you going to be involved with the Wikipedia Education Program? If so, that's exciting news!

Minor detail change[edit]

Athena is technically the redesign of the UI, not a master plan for everything. It is out-of-plan this year. Echo (notifications) and Flow (messaging) are in-plan for next year

Hope this helps!

Manual:$wgExtensionAliasesFiles[edit]

I'm not sure i agree with your edit to that page. Well some of that page could be simplified, removing details about how one would use the variable if one was developing for older mediawiki doesn't seem like that good an idea. Bawolff (talk) 21:55, 24 July 2012 (UTC)

I didn't think about people who can't update or are stuck at a particular version. Is this better?
Also, what is the correct way to internally link to a diff? I tried variations of fullurl, but to no avail.

Hi. I think that looks better. (I made a minor change to wording though). You can't make internal links to a diff (There's things you can do to make a link that works in all wikis with fullurl, but its still an external link. The best you can do is [{{fullurl:Manual:$wgExtensionAliasesFiles|diff=565026&oldid=565011}} diff] to make diff. Most people just copy and paste the url of the diff page. Bawolff (talk) 12:19, 25 July 2012 (UTC)

Peabody Essex Museum Edit-a-thon on May 3[edit]

Hi Daniel,

We're excited to see you at the Peabody Essex Museum on Saturday for our very-first Wikipedia edit-a-thon!

As one of the more experienced editors coming to the event, I was wondering if you could help us introduce new editors to all the how-to's of Wikipedia. It's looking like there will be a lot of first-time editors there (both PEM staff and outside editors). I'm sure that they will have lots of questions about how Wikipedia works, creating new articles, etc., and it would be great if you could help support them during the editing session in the afternoon and answer any questions they may have.

In the morning we'll be hosting a "Wiki 101" session to introduce new editors to Wikipedia. This will cover how Wikipedia works, the goals of Wikipedia, and some basics of getting set up with an account and creating/editing an article. Would you be willing to help us lead this session if you're able to make it in the morning? If so let Ed Rodley or myself know. We'd really love to have your help!

Either way, I hope we can rely on you all to help out the new editors during the afternoon.

Looking forward to meeting you, Cathy
