User:YuviPanda/Apps over web features

From mediawiki.org

This page lists a grab bag of features that can be implemented in apps in significantly better ways than they can be with the current state of Mobile Web.

Real Time Push Notifications[edit]

We can hook into Echo and/or Watchlist notifications and push them 'real time' to the user's device. This would also entail that all the notifications are actionable in some form or other - it is no fun to be 'interrupted' by a notification only to find out that you can't do anything about it. Watchlist notifications can let you see a diff and revert/thank/edit-article, Talk page messages can let you respond to the author, etc.

Offline Storage[edit]

<insert-something-here>

Geo Fencing[edit]

GeoFencing can be used to remind the user about their favorite (watchlisted? another mechanism?) articles when they are near them, or when they are near articles that need creating/details/new-images, or a featured article, or whatever.

Typography & Design[edit]

Apps have more leeway with regards to what kinda graphical elements and typography they can use, since the size, performance and compatibility considerations of Mobile Web don't apply. A complete rethink of the reading experience is also possible.

Integration with other Applications[edit]

Integration with other Devices[edit]

Chromecast, AppleTV, even Google Glass!

Image processing & Effects[edit]

App make possible easy to use implementations of image cropping, color, contrast, brightness and other effects.
