Project interests[edit]

These are the projects suggested at MW's Summer of Code 2010 page that I'm interested in and capable of contributing to:

  • Watchlist improvements
  • Option to see diffs
  • Automatic subpage watching see: Extension requests#Watching Subpages
  • Rewrite MediaWiki's math formulas support in a language that more than 3 people in the world understand and split it off to an extension.
  • Improve and extend the Javascript for Semantic MediaWiki and some of its spinoff extensions, most notably Semantic Forms - this would include transferring over much of the Javascript to use the jQuery library, which is now becoming a MediaWiki standard. - Yaron Koren

I'm also working on an extension that will auto-generate/update itself by looking at a live database's metadata, with some etceteras. In working on this extension, which does a lot of dynamic page-creation and editing, I have encountered some limitations in MediaWiki's API, such as its use of global variables and some inconsistencies this creates -- I'd like to help resolve these issues.

About you[edit]

I'm a graduate student at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor, MI USA -- my primary interest is programmer-productivity. I'm interested in IDE enhancements and information visualization to help developers better understand and work on their projects. The latter is where MediaWiki is of particular interest to me -- I want MediaWiki to be a useful development tool, and am interested in its API and extension-framework being utilized for development projects.
