This the new Wikimedia language engineering monthly report. It continues the tradition of the monthly report published by the Wikimedia Language team which is discontinued in favour of Global Collaboration monthly report. This report is currently looking for a new location.

Translate[edit]

Wikimedia's software is translated to hundreds of languages using the Translate extension for MediaWiki. In addition it is used to translate help pages, newsletters, policies, announcements, banners, etc. It is installed on Wikimedia special projects, translatewiki.net and many other sites. Translate is part of MLEB.

MediaWiki Language Extension Bundle[edit]

No MLEB release this month. Current stable release is 2017.10. Next release is planned for 2018.01.

MediaWiki core internationalization[edit]

Changes to translations and equivalent localisation data (magic words, namespace names) are not included in this list. The volunteer translators are updating translations every day to keep up with changes.

  • User Albert Wolszon (a GCI student) made gender support explicit for three messages related to bot passwords. T129731
  • User Chiefwei updated Chinese language converter conversion tables.
  • Jon Harald SĂžby and Bartosz DziewoƄski added custom collation (list sorting rules) for Northern Sami. T181503
  • Amir Aharoni added HEBREW POINT METEG to the list of insertable special characters for Hebrew.
  • User Fomafix fixed the code to set correct language and writing direction for the title of the table of the contents.

Project Milkshake[edit]

Project Milkshake consists of four re-usable jquery internationalization libraries.

translatewiki.net[edit]

  • Raimond Spekking did a lot of work with MediaWiki core and extensions, as usual.
  • Niklas Laxström finished the migration of converting all repositories to use the new RepoNG repository handling simplifying the addition of new projects, reduced maintenance overhead and faster and more stable translation synchonization.
  • Niklas Laxström removed iHRIS from translation pending a new release.
  • Niklas Laxström added Phabricator for translation.
  • Niklas Laxström configured responsive SVG version of translatewiki.net logo.
  • Niklas Laxström automatized the use of Let's Encrypt SSL certificates. T181053
  • Niklas Laxström updated ElasticSearch to 5.5.2
  • Niklas Laxström performed a major upgrade from Puppet 3 to Puppet 4 and improved the way we use third party puppet modules.
