Project summary

The project has been taken from one of the ideas from MediaWiki's list. Rewriting the mobile website in PHP will benefit the community, since it's easier to be learned and consequently, easier to provide new features/modifications to the project.

By using PHP as the Mobile Website development languange, MediaWiki will allow many users to create their mobile websites in a short ammount of time. And, as said on the Mobile Rewrite idea page, most of webservers are built for PHP webapps rather then Ruby. Then webapps coded with PHP will do better then the Ruby ones.

And as it's been seen in the past years, there's been a change. With the creation of really powerful Smarthphone, the mobile market has increased significantly. By having a functional mobile website, MediaWiki will have a better exposure which will attract more users, making the community get bigger.

About Me

Well, my name is Lucas Tadeu Teixeira and I'm from Brazil. I'm a first-semester Computing Science student at the University of Campinas (UNICAMP). I Already have experience with programming languages such as C, Pascal, Java and PHP and I have graduated in the Information Technology course at my current college. I must say that I really like webdevelopment and that my favorite programming language is indeed PHP. And what made me really want to participate in this project was my passion for Webdevelopment and PHP, as said before, and because I often use Wikipedia on my iPod Touch. I just love it. And I want to help people to have access to these information and improve the webapp so that they would have this in a better way. This is why I added my name to this list.
