Translation suggestions: Topic-based & Community-defined lists/Featured Collection
A featured collection (also called a "vital collection"or "featured article list") is a community-nominated list of articles to be translated that appears as the default filter in the Content translation tool dashboard. It allows communities to highlight their most important content priorities, whether that's vital knowledge articles, active campaigns, or WikiProject collaborations. When featured, these collections get prominent placement to help translators focus on the content that matters most to each language community. This feature addresses a key challenge of suggested article collections in the Translation suggestion feature being several clicks away and requiring many steps to navigate. Featured collections solve this by letting communities prioritize what's most important and by giving those collections proper emphasis so translators can see them.
Current Status
[edit]Wikipedia communities can add Featured Collections localised for their translators who use the Content Translation tool to add content to Wikipedia. The Language and Product Localisation team worked with some community members from the Spanish, Arabic (Wikimedia Algeria), Swahili (Wikimedia Tanzania), Tamil, and Min-Nan Chinese Wikipedias from October to December 2025 to develop the feature to improve the discovery of vital article collections in the translation workflow.
As of December 30th 2025, Six Wikipedias have nominated their locally relevant collections (Arabic, Min-nan Chinese, Swahili, Igbo,Hausa and Telugu), which are currently featured in the default translation suggestion filter in the Content Translation tool.
The team will measure the success of this feature based on community adoption, increased translator engagement with featured collections, and accelerated content growth in vital articles compared to wiki-wide averages.
How it Works
[edit]For communities
[edit]Nominating an article list in Meta:
To create a featured collection, you need to:
- Create the article list in Meta Wiki's main namespace ( is an example of an article list)- The list must be compiled on Meta Wiki, not on your local Wikipedia.
- Edit your list and add a page-collection tag like this:
<page-collection name="Your list"></page-collection>. 'Your list' is the name that will show up in the Content translation tool article collection. Here is an example of a page collection tag added to a list called WikiLove Ramadan 2025:<page-collection name="WikiLoves Ramadan 2025"></page-collection>. Once this is done, the system recognizes it as a collection and it appears in the Content Translation. - To feature the list, go to the configuration page:
Special:CommunityConfiguration/Con tentTranslationfor your Wikipedia (e.g., ta:சிறப்பு:CommunityConfiguration/ContentTranslation). Fill out the information about your article list on the Community configuration page. Note that only admins can fill out the information and submit it.
- Communities can nominate one featured collection at a time (see the infographics below for information on what type of article list can be featured).
- Nominated collections are added through
Special:CommunityConfiguration/ContentTranslation - Collections can represent vital article lists, active campaigns, or other priority content.

For translators
[edit]Discovering Featured Collections: When you open the Content Translation dashboard, the featured collection automatically appears as the default filter based on your target language.
Example: If you're translating from English → Swahili, you will see the Swahili community's featured collection and can easily choose an article from that list.
