In trying out the manual visual editor citation generator, I was unable to find basic |author and |editor1= fields. There is an |authorlist= field, but this isn't exactly the same. Otherwise, everything seems to be last name first name. Does the citation generator have a way to handle names that don't fit within a first name last name (or vice versa) convention, or does it have to be edited manually in source?

These are mappings made by the documentation of the TemplateData. See maps citoid in the template data definition of Cite web for instance. This mapping can differ per type of template, and of course it also highly depends on whether or not Zotero or one of the other sources of Citoid can even retrieve this information at all.
I don't know exactly how it pulls the TemplateData, but |author= is at least there for cite web. I was trying to add them manually, as the automatic was not pulling it.
