What are you interested in? What would you like to see or do in this year’s hackathon? Please share your ideas with everyone! This is a community Hackathon and we will work together to put on a great event.

I want to learn about what people in the technical community feel are the biggest barriers to writing documentation, what motivates you to want to do it, what stops you, and what do you think could help you (education? templates? peer support?). Thinking about proposing a structured discussion session around this topic; would love any input or ideas people have related to this topic.

That's great! I'm excited to join your session about this.

Hi,

From a user perspective several aspects can be improved in Wikimedia.

Firstly, most of the content is still plain text, lacking any structure to be machine interpretable. To improve this, we really need a controlled vocabulary, that is, term definitions from a central repository. Incorporation of Wikibase items would be a nice approach. However, this is still in an immature stage. Other options of the mediawiki-family are unsuited because these are plain text solutions and therefore not machine interpretable.

Secondly, the possibility to deliberate on the content of a page shall be improved. Yes, there is a discussion page but to my knowledge it is not possible to point a bookmarked sections and paragraphs a page.

Hi Frans. This sounds like a great idea for a discussion. Maybe it would be worth adding this idea to the Phabricator board so others can connect with you.
