When I choose the article to translate and I click on "Start translation" it doesn't do anything or lead anywhere. Am I doing something wrong? Or it doesn't work?

UOzurumba (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Hello Symborg,

Sorry about the issue you are having when you click the "Start translation" icon, please can you provide the following details?

  • Which article were you trying to start translating; to which language
  • Which browser did you use (Firefox, Chrome, Microsoft Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera, etc.)
  • If you're getting any errors, please provide log from browser console if possible. To open browser console: press Ctrl+Shift+j (or cmd+alt+J () on a Mac).

The above details will help us reproduce and understand the problem.

Thank you.

Terraflorin (talkcontribs)

I have the same problem with any article.

Pabloab (talkcontribs)

Same issue here. This seens a major bug on production. Happen with any article with spaces on the title. In my case EN → ES. Firefox 88. Console log just give a couple of warnings (one of them: "Some cookies are misusing the recommended “SameSite“ attribute"). Bug seems to be on back-end redirection.

@UOzurumba (WMF), the same thing happened to me! I was trying to translate the article en:Pennsylvania Station (1910–1963) to portuguese but I can't acess the translation editor! I use the latest version o Chrome and it seems thats the only article it dont work. Can you help me?

Symborg (talkcontribs)

-The article is Methylobacterium symbioticum. Tried to different languages (English, Portuguese) and it doesn't work, as mentioned above by other user too.

- I use Chrome.

- I don't get any errors. The exact description is what user 89.152.130.14 mentions in their comment above. The page starts loading and seems to do something, no errors, it just doesn't take you anywhere.

Thank you.

Vitosmo (talkcontribs)

Excuse me, I have a same problem too, clicking on start translation doesn't work. I tried to translate Pythagorean triple, Continuum hypothesis, Wikipedia:WikiProject Mathematics/List of mathematicans (B), List of named matrix, AD+, Outline of physics, Argument, Shades of orange (starts from "en" to "id". I use Chrome and I even don't get the errors.

Dedhert.Jr (talkcontribs)

But I can translated the "Well-order" (translate from en to id) and it doesn't refreshed at all.

Bug2266 (talkcontribs)

Chiming in. I'm having the same exact issue when I try resuming my translation of "Alaju" from Spanish to English. I hope this isn't the result of some data wipe.

Update

At the moment, the issue has been identified; pages with spaces in their names are not working, which means the "Start Translation" button might not work for them. The problem is being worked on, please expect it to be fixed in about 24 hours. You can also track progress here.

Thank you for your patience.

Bug2266 (talkcontribs)

It only affects articles with spaces in their titles? I'm working on single-word titled articles to similar failure.

94.21.114.104 (talkcontribs)

@Bug2266 Can be right, I'll try it.

94.21.114.104 (talkcontribs)

Yes, it seems to be that I can translate articles which doesn't have a space in their titles.

NikosLikomitros (talkcontribs)

Yes, I have the same problem while I tried to translate Russification of Belarus in Greek (ultimately I translated it manually). Also it is not working with any page.

Kipala (talkcontribs)
RodsTR (talkcontribs)

Yep. Same problem here. The tool is only working with one-word articles. I am using Google Chrome by the way. Translating from English to Portuguese.

M.Muthuselvi (talkcontribs)

I have the same problem since this morning

Xpoback (talkcontribs)

I confirm the issue. There is a 302 redirect back to page when clicking on "Start translation" if the source page has spaces and/or cyryllic characters (e.g. МР-12). The problem seems to be happening since yesterday.

Eight96Four (talkcontribs)

Same here. It just refreshes.

This is the console log (see image):

Xpoback (talkcontribs)

Dear Sergio, please try not to copy very long console logs to this thread as it's making it very hard to read.

Regarding your issue, please note that the error appears to be in picture-in-picture.js:252 Fetch finished loading: GET "chrome-extension://jffbochibkahlbbmanpmndnhmeliecah/config.json", which is picture-in-in picture extension of your Vivaldi browser and does not seem to be related to Wikipedia.

Serg!o (talkcontribs)

Thanks i removed the text. I didnt have to change anything in my browser and now the issue seems fixed.

Euro know (talkcontribs)

It seems to me that the problem is fixed.
