Topic on Talk:Talk pages project/Notifications/Flow

I wish I have an inbox for Notifications, and especially for new messages. A central place where I can find back pings, messages on my talk page, or messages posted on pages I watch. Maybe Special:Notifications needs more love?

@Trizek: can you share a bit more about what prompted you to suggest the above? Asked a different way: what do you find difficult/frustrating/confusing/etc. about the existing ways available for knowing when someone is talking to you?

A long list of notifications can be difficult to check. And it is even more difficult when I look for a ping from a while ago.

I find frustrating to check my watchlist and miss discussions there. I can filter them, but it is not really the usual behavior I can observe. And I find very frustrating to have a gigantic diff to check for some talk pages while I'm only interested one particular discussion.

Well, now that you ask, it seems that my complains aren't around Special:Notifications, but more around how to link discussions to the real word (aka one with permalinks for each comments, and ways to connect them to the human being who receives them).

Flow's original design included a central "feed" that would make it easier to find, sort, and manage notifications and ongoing conversations and other notifications (e.g., the Articles for Deletion discussion has reached its minimum time limit). It was never built. High-volume editors (e.g., me) would benefit from something like that. Special:Notifications does some of this, within some limits. One of those limits is that it only stores the most recent 2,000 notifications. In my case, 2,000 notifications ago on this wiki was somewhere in the middle of "A memorable talk page experience" about 15 months ago.
