Hi everybody,

i just set up a new mediawiki on our webspace. Copied the files to the webspace, followed the installation routine, set up a mysql database, all permissions granted. So far, all this worked out fine.

Now if i try to edit the main page and save anything, it's overwritten by some source code, which leaves the page in chaos. The actual text i entered is also not saved in it, it's just replaced.

Any idea what might cause this? Couldn't find any help searching the web so far. Thanks in advance!

Is this a public installation that you could link to?

Hi! No, so far it's a private one. But, if necessary, i could make it public, as it doesn't have any content yet anyway.

Should also add: No errors in dev logs and version history shows the source code as the actual contents of the page.

You didn't tell what editor are you using when editing and saving that page, which is pretty important. I'd say you're using VisualEditor.

Yes, sorry, you are correct. Visual Editor was activated. Now that you mentioned it, i looked in the settings, deactivated and without it, saving works normal. So there seems to be an issue with the visual editor. When i changed back to it and saved, the same problem as beforce occurred.

Probably you've (incorrectly) set ShortUrls with rewrite rules, causing requests to api.php or rest.php to be directed to the main page or other wiki page, confusing the VisualEditor. That's the HTML code you're seeing when the page is saved

I have reinstalled the wiki not using any short urls. I am now running into "Parsoid/RESTBase server (HTTP 404)" Errors when trying to change to visual editor. Already tried some fixes, but nothing worked. Seems to be some problem with my wiki being private and maybe also because of SSL Encrypction for the URL.

Will just not use the visual editor for now.
