It is no longer possible to save an invalid custom signature in Special:Preferences#mw-prefsection-personal-signature.
Some volunteers have already started encouraging editors at their home wikis to update their signatures. Please let me know if you are doing this, or if you would like to do this. Anyone is welcome to do this – it's very helpful! – but we should not accidentally contact the same editors multiple times.
