The translation tool is very good

but there are two serious major problems

1. when a user has started translating a page, we can't translate, it's blocked.

I wrote to the user but I don't get an answer.

So I can't translate the page.

2. When I translated a page and published it, it is saved and cannot be translated again.

If I want to translate it again (so a second time), I get an error message that says: "This translation is based on an older version of the content. The source page may have changed significantly and you may prefer to start the translation again. »

so I deleted (trash can) the record, but it's displaying a new error message: "Loading the recorded page".

then "Failed to load the save page".

In this case, the only solution is to create a new account "faux-nez" which is prohibited and violates the rule of wikipedia france which I think is also for other languages.

I'm a little curious about your second point. When the error message "This translation is based on an older version of the content. The source page may have changed significantly and you may prefer to start the translation again." show up, is there not a button in the error message (the one that pops up on the right hand side (not the one at the top)) with a circular arrow saying something like "restart translation"? There should be one, although it has not appeared as it should for me recently. I was thinking it might be the same bug?

If I had it it would be nice, but I don't have it.

It does seem to be the same bug.

I have reported the bug here, on the phabricator (https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/T251773). It would probably help if the article name and languages (both original and target) could be known.

My problem was with https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Face_masks_during_the_COVID-19_pandemic

in english to translat in french :

it automatically shows me this address:

when I would like this address:

https://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Special:ContentTranslation?page=Face+masks+during+the+COVID-19+pandemic&from=en&to=fr&targettitle&campaign=interlanguagelink

i.e. without the "revision"

But with all the pages I've already translated, I have the same problem.

The pages I translated last week have since been updated with the addition of new elements.

But when I want to translate this updated page, it's the old page I translated last week that loads and not the new one.

On top of that, it also displays my translation, and if I want to delete it, I have to delete sentence by sentence, because I can't delete all my old translation at once.

Oh, that is rather strange. Just to be sure, do other kind of error messages (no matching template, reference not copied, unmodified etc) do show up on the right hand side, or do they appear elsewhere? (I'm on PC so it's on the right hand side, but it could be different)

I'll be adding that to the report.

You pointed to two technical limitations (1) (2) that may take some time to fix. Meanwhile, it is possible to make a copy of the contents you want to translate to a sub-page of your user page, and use that as the source for your translation.

We are also working on the support for Section translation as part of the Boost initiative, which will allow to expand existing articles by translating one specific section. This may provide more flexibility for one or more users to work on smaller parts of an article and reduce the chances of collision.

and thank you also for your time in making it better: Translation tool is a really great tool so I always use for translating new wikipedia pages.

However, I must tell you that your advice is not viable.

I've already tried it because it's serte possible but the downside is that it's very time consuming.

Let me explain.

When I  puts content in my sandbox,

I can run the translation tool to translate it.

I can translate and after publishing it, it's perfect, there's no problem.

But if afterwards I want to translate a new content,

every time I open my sandbox,

1.in the right part: the translation tool reopens me the old content (and not the new one)

2.on the left side: the translation tool gives me the translation of the old content which I have to delete sentence by sentence in order to translate the new content, which takes a lot of time consuming.

I tried to create another subpage of my user page to put the new content in something like "sandboxe2" or "sandboxe/2" but I get an error message.
