"It seems that you're trying to add an external link to a page". Well yes, that's what "Sites using MediaWiki/en" is meant for. I happen to be logged into Wikipedia but that seems irrelevant. Your page asks for an external link, I was obliging but to no effect, your security won't let me.

If anyone would like to drop it there on my behalf, to benefit the page:

Hi @Cb6, looks like you were having trouble with abuse filter 12. Wikimedia sites, unfortunately are prone to third party link spam and other types of vandalism. To keep away the ones who try to harm our movement to share sum of our free knowledge to others, we sometimes have to create filters like this. We regret the inconvenience and the false positives they may cause to our good-faith contributors, but we unfortunately have to rely on feedbacks like this to find those bugs and fix them. I have modified the filter and added an exemption. Could you try again adding the link? Thanks for your report. Courtesy pinging Leaderboard, who have set the filter mode to disallow. It looks like we are facing some false positives.

I think the filter did its job properly. I'm not sure whether it is worth adding that link to be honest; is it really notable?

Ainz Ooal Gown (talkcontribs)

You have read the "Feel free to add your site to the appropriate language list (select your language from the list on the right first)." on Sites_using_MediaWiki. Right?

I'll admit that I haven't, however, I was fully aware of the intention and purpose of the page. I understand that it was good, but I was wondering whether every wiki powered by MediaWiki should be on the list or whether there should be a criteria of 'notability'. After all, this is an old page, and I am not sure whether this page would stand up today. But that's for another time.

Ainz Ooal Gown (talkcontribs)

There is no such thing as "notability" guidelines on this site. That page is for listing and keeping tracks of the sites that are using Mediawiki. If you want to change it, then please feel free to start a discussion.

Actually, WikiApiary is the place to list all sites using MediaWiki.

Leaderboard (talkcontribs)

Hmm, so what should we do with the MediaWiki page then? It was created long ago when WikiApiary wasn't a thing, so was there any discussion on that page?

Ciencia Al Poder (talkcontribs)

We may get in a never ending fight about what criteria we should establish to the acceptance criteria, so I'd suggest to remove all wikis from there, mention WMF sites and point to wikiapiary for a searchable list of wikis using MediaWiki.

Ainz Ooal Gown (talkcontribs)

No objections.

Leaderboard (talkcontribs)

I think that would be the right approach indeed.

Thank you all for your responses. It appears "Sites using MediaWiki/en" may be obsolete, or just a rarely accessed index. There may be other index pages on other sites doing the job more prominently. I have no quibble with those scenarios. I do think that if the page exists then it should do what it says it does, which is to allow other mediawiki site owners to update the index in line with the invitation it presents in black and white. No doubt the position will be clarified in due course once the present debate reaches a verdict. ~~~~

All of those site listing pages should probably just be completely removed, since even the existing sites on the list rarely get updated (note I didn't say never, I have actually edited some on it before) when they should, and it's not particularly useful. The way to go forward on this is probably to move it to a page listing WMF projects only, if it's to be kept at all.
