Quirk with citation adding tool

Hi, not sure if this is a VE problem or if it's a tool problem (if it's a tool problem, can anyone suggest where the best place to report this is?).

If you try to add a link from World Rowing, e.g. http://www.worldrowing.com/events/2015-european-rowing-championships/mens-double-sculls/final/ the 'add a citation' automatic option changes it to a link to just www.worldrowing.com. I'm not sure what's causing the behaviour. If you go in and edit it, you can change it to the correct one but that involves spotting that it's done that which might not be obvious to all users.

The |url= bit, because that should be the full long thing, not just the link to the home page.

So yes, this is bad: https://en.wikipedia.org/api/rest_v1/data/citation/mediawiki/http%3A%2F%2Fwww.worldrowing.com%2Fevents%2F2015-european-rowing-championships%2Fmens-double-sculls%2Ffinal%2F%20

I'd guess it's a problem with redirection; zotero probably isn't pretending to be a browser well enough, and the website is thus redirecting us to their homepage, which is what we're then scraping, instead of the actual page desired.

The only solution for this to actually run a headless browser, which we actually used to do, but stopped for security reasons - so no real solution to this except for using the user-entered URL instead of the scraped URL; which we stopped doing for security reasons as well, but I'm considering changing back to using the user entered URL and manually trying to remove tracking IDs from it.

I've created a task for it: task T242089, but one worry I have with this, is that in this particular instance is that it masks that the metadata for this url actually came from www.worldrowing.com and not the intended URL.
