My thoughts on approval (should I ask Niharika about this?): either my reasoning (can do 'almost' the same with the current tool) is enough for approval, or an RfC on mediawiki should be done.

Indeed, I implemented the comment-only version. I agree that your reasoning is enough for approval, given that this was requested by the community
