Hi all, on page => https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Manual:Interface/Sitenotice we say :"The message is displayed if it is defined. 'Defined' means the sitenotice has content that is not the "-" single character.".

Today the notice is empty; see => https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=MediaWiki:Sitenotice&diff=3176667&oldid=3175993&diffmode=source

We dont see it and it contains no hyphen: good. So to which field the sitenotice item hereabove is related to ? since it is sufficient to have an empty page https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/MediaWiki:Sitenotice for the sitenotice not to be displayed ? Can someone reformulate the sentence please ? Thanks.

Some messages can be "disabled" by inserting a hyphen. Leaving it blank works too. So both options are correct: has content (is not blank) and the content is not a single hyphen character. I'm not native English speaker so I don't know how to improve this.

ok, I changed into : "The message is displayed if it is defined, that means the sitenotice page is not empty and its contents is different from the single character "-".
