Translation of existing article

I wanted to start a translation for a page that ALREADY exists in the target language, because the page in the source language is of much better quality.

But it only creates a new, when I would have appreciated to keep the current version of the target language, at least for reference and to check if I don't lose information in the process.

Obviously I could do that manually, but some integration would be appreciated

In the CXT of the target language, manually select a source language and then choose the article You wanna translate. You'll get a warning the target article exists. For not overwriting or modifying it, in the started translation click the gear button on top and choose "personal draft". Continue the translation and publish. This creates a draft in your user namespace, copy and paste the sections in the target article. Do not forget to request a revision import or equal to keep author rights of previous contributors alive.

Thanks for the feedback, @Raphaël xyz.

As @Hans Haase mentioned, creating a separate page and merging them manually is the current way to support this.

We are exploring ways to support ways to expand existing articles by translating new sections. We are still in an early stage but there are more details in this page. Feel free to check the current ideas and share any comment.

Thanks!
