Sometimes I wonder whether real-time conversations would help or hurt. During a dispute, it's often better to go for a walk than to engage in real-time conversations.

BTW, I hear that Ajax won't be (re-)installed on WMF servers for (more or less) performance reasons. I know that it has fans, but from what I hear, it's not a realistic option.

Interesting – do you remember a situation(s) when you wanted something that could make talking/interacting on talk pages faster? Was it a particular kind of conversation on a talk page in a particular namespace? What would you hope would happen in making talking on talk pages feel "faster"?

More broadly, this idea of altering talk pages to make using them "faster" and "lighter" is a curios one because, as @Whatamidoing (WMF) alluded to, it seems like one of those changes that could have a significant impact on how contributors engage with them.
