Trying to save page from deletion for 2 hours. Edited a lot and... error. Can't switch from visual editing to wikitext editor.

I'm sorry to hear that you ran into this problem. Usually, a 404 error means that there is a temporary internet problem. If you copy and paste the entire article, then often you can open the article in a new tab and paste the new version into it.
