I can't edit references nor the info boxes because they are using a template. If someone could tell me how I could approach this problem or how I would change it to source mode, it would be much appreciated.

You should not modify or edit references. This is a tool for translation only. But it is possible to remove references, or copy still in the source article existing references anywhere to the translated text. The reason for is to enable the users to remove blacklisted references from articles of less maintained projects, or references with interrest of political conflict that are blacklisted. This causes to block publishing article, if in the target language project any reference is blacklisted.
When finished the translaten, You can publish the article as personal draft using the gear button and edit it as usual. Then have it – maybe by another user – moved in the article namespace where the artcle becomes a part of the Wikipedia.
Thanks for the reply, I didn't know that. Since I'm bit new, I wasn't aware that I could change it trough clicking the citation numbers. The article I was editing had a quote in english, so I just found the original quote with it's native language. Also some of the references were dead so I had to use wayback machine and fix them. Anyways, thanks for your time.
Yes, just translate and fix the references later, or better: fix the references before You translate it to have propper articles in both projects. If somebody is editwarring You, just fix the translated article only due not taking part of the editwar.
