We have requested for permissions to move files and added rename tag as well for local admins to move/rename non-descriptive images. Thanks

We are using a bot to upload image files to mediawiki commons and managed to upload a set of 50 images. We have uploaded files but unfortunately they are non descriptive like Images-GN14467.jpg. Now we are planning to rename those files- experts please suggest the right way to rename.

Should we upload the files again with new filename like "Tourist buses and MV Moonta, Kirton Point jetty, Port Lincoln (GN14467).jpg" and mark the old files as duplicate?

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

or use rename tag {{rename}} to rename already uploaded files.

This is about Wikimedia commons Policies, not "MediaWiki". Better ask at Commons:Commons:Help_desk (O Oh it is help desk not center...)

To rename a file, I tried API:Move. I am getting " You do not have permission to move files. ". I need this permission to rename a my own descriptive file. Please help.

It needs "Movefile" permission. You can request for temporary permission at c:Commons:Requests_for_rights Or, see commons:Commons:File_renaming, Find "rename request" at Preferences#gadgets and use the gadget to submit a request.

Please provide permissions to rename/move the files.

Please wait for local admin's response. And you have to point out that you only need the permission temporarily and only rename self-uploaded files.
