First, thank you for all the maintenance work you provide around translations!

I have a question about some formatting you've made on this diff.

It is when you use ll template: Received when {{<tvar|1>ll|Help:Notifications/Thanks</>|someone thanks you for your edit}}.

When I'm translating, I now have to handle a template {{$1|someone thanks you for your edit}}. Isn't it a bit disturbing? Do we have documented best practices about it somewhere I miss?

We should make an effort not to invalidate the existing translations, otherwise we should update ALL translation pages. e.g. https://www.mediawiki.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Translations&message=Translations%3AHelp%3ATemplates%2F72%2Fit

Somebody introduced {{<tvar|1>ll|...</>|...}}-style formatting in many pages, but it is undocumented.
