@Arthur Rubin, would you mind trying out a little copying and pasting of wikitext here? If you can't do it here, then I may need to file a bug for VisualEditor (because I think that Flow's visual editing mode – the default for most users on this wiki; use the pencil icon in the corner to switch – is the same as VisualEditor's).

I said I couldn't (then) copy Wikitext. All I see here is straight text, which copied fine.
Seems to work, now, though. When I copied the bolded section above, it appeared as clean Wikitext.

You should be able to copy the wikitext of anything you put in this window by switching to the wikitext mode (the pencil icon), and you should be able to paste (most) wikitext into the visual mode, and end up with the expected visual results.
("Most", because if you only paste half of some wikitext markup, like the beginning of bold-text markup but not the end, it will probably guess that you meant to have ''' in the text, instead of "turn on bold here, and I'll add some more bold text after what I'm pasting".)
