Impossible to erase and re-compile a translations with full of bugs

When translating an article (English > Hungarian), I can erase a translation with full of reference bugs.

I want erase and re-compile my translation, but can't, because,

when I do so, after the deletion, the new translation will bring the previous errors back as the old one.

I tried to restore a saved draft, but only the old machine version came back after deleting and rebuilding, not my draft or improved draft.

Any idea?

Yes, I agree we need a way to delete an old translation and start over...

Create a copy of the article source code in Your user namespace and translate that one. Note: In the user namespace, exclude the categories immediately. In the destination language project, when published the translation as a personal draft, move it into article name space and order a revision import. When the article exists, add Your translation and always order the import request due rights of other contributing editors.

Great suggestion as a work around. Thanks

It appears I have to create the test pages in mainspace on EN Wikipedia which I guess I can do but it is not ideal.

By hand was easier to repair it and faster.

It would not be possible to develop a button to permanently delete all the versions I've made, which I have not yet published among the main articles?

And another button to reset my saved draft to the new translator page?

It would be very good and nice. :)

Doc James, I would like to ask in which language You are translating the article to? I would like to try to translate it to German to see the issue myself, but without any conflicting edits. May I start doing so?

Doc James (talkcontribs)

Was trying to translate it to Japanese. Certainly let me know if it works for you

Hans Haase (talkcontribs)

Ok, I'll go for it and I will reply when finished. It may take some time due it is not my profession.

I did not complete right now, but I have filled out all sections.

Doc James (talkcontribs)

Yes the question is can one restart a translation that has been published already or is partly through publication?

Hans Haase (talkcontribs)

I guess no, the articles seem to remain linked silently each other. But, You cat copy the source text and translate it to other target. When finished copy the source to destination article.

  • failed translation: source1 → destination1
  • perform translation: source2 → destination2
  • then copy: destination2 → destination1
Doc James (talkcontribs)

Yes one can do that. It is a little complicated though.
