It is terrible in templates

This seems the result of the sentence highlighting leaking into the final published content. Content Translation uses the default browser editing surface which is very limited and makes it hard to isolate User Interface elements (such as the highlight) from the content. Currently we are working on the next version of Content Translation which uses a more solid editing surface. As a result we expect a much cleaner content produced as a result.

The link above contains instructions on how to try the new version (still in development but usable to translate articles already). Feel free to try and report any issue you may find with it.
