Steps to reproduce

  1. Open my my sandbox
  2. Start editing using the Visual editor or Visual wikitext editor
  3. Open the Find and Replace window
  4. Enter 'Random' in the Find box
  5. Enter 'Stochastic' in the Replace box
  6. Tap on the 'Replace' button until all instances have been replaced

Actual results

1 of 1 is shown after last replacement in the the Find box. Also, the text 'Stocha' is highlighted.

Expected results

1 of 1 should not be shown after the last replacement in the Find box. Further the text 'Stocha' should not be highlighted as the Find box contains 'Random'.

I was pretty sure I had filed something like this in the past, but can't find it anymore, not even among closed ones, ATM. Would you like to file this behaviour on Phab?

Kaartic (talkcontribs)

Sure. I was reporting this here and not in phab to ensure I'm not the only one seeing this. (Also, I'm a little skeptical about the tag that should be used ;-)

Elitre (WMF) (talkcontribs)

When in doubt, go with the most relevant ones. (Tip, the 2017 wikitext editor one can be very easily triggered by starting to type 2017w .) Nobody should ever be mad at you for a poor choice, removing a tag isn't a big deal, but missing the correct one is.

Kaartic (talkcontribs)

It's not their shouting that makes me skeptical to file tasks in the inappropriate section, it's just me refraining to do it (due to some unknown intuition). I guess I've just been over skeptical about tagging ;) Thanks for your comment @Elitre (WMF)! I'll file tasks in phab in the future when I'm pretty sure it's not something specific to my environment.

Elitre (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Oh, FWIW you can totally do both (sanity-checking here before filing). Unless it's a bug that's literally breaking the wikis, Phab can wait a bit.

Ok. How about helping skeptical people like me by linking to a customized "Create Task" page in the description of the Feedback flow board for various projects? It seems this one already has a "Report a new bug" link in it's description which I have failed to notice. I guess it would be nice to have links like those in other feedback pages like Talk:VisualEditor/Diffs, Extension talk:CodeMirror, Help talk:Two Column Edit Conflict Viewtoo.

Elitre (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Sure, go for it.

Kaartic (talkcontribs)

Ok, I've tried to add the links using tags which I think would suit well for the projects I specified. It would be great if you could check if they do the right thing.

I hadn't noticed this: "Reminder: All VisualEditor-related tasks should be tagged with VisualEditor as well, for tracking, triage and management purposes." Good catch on your part. If something is wrong with the rest, we'll know :)

Whatamidoing (WMF) (talkcontribs)

I believe that's added automatically/via script now, if you happen to forget.

Kaartic (talkcontribs)

That's surprising. It seems StructuredDiscussion board a.k.a FlowBoards don't interact nicely with wavering network connections. The first time I tried to post the above comment, I got a "timed out" error. After making a little change I posted it successfully the second time. To my surprise the comment for which I got a "timed out" also appeared!

Is this worth filing a bug ? Or should it be considered an edge case not worth it?

Elitre (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Is that really a Flow issue? Things are weird in general when connections fail. If you can't find anything about it, feel free to file a task, of course.

Kaartic (talkcontribs)

I thought it was a Flow thing as I got the "timed out" error just above the comment I was posting. I thought it was a Flow issue as it showed the "timed out" error even though the comment has been posted. Anyways, I'll report it if I see it the next time :)
