could'nt understand media wiki's short manual

I need a url like http://localhost:1028/samswiki/ But i have a url like http://localhost:1028/samswiki/index.php/Main_Page. I could'nt understand media wiki's short manual. Can any one help me out with this.

Please provide a link to "MediaWiki's short manual" and point out which specific sentences were unclear and why.

Manual:Short URL This is the link to media wiki's short url. I did use the rewrite rules as suggested and did changes in LocalSettings.php. But it does not work
