How is the "Read" link in Page previews useful

It seems that "Page previews" shows a "Read" link for articles for which it couldn't display a preview. I'm not sure how it would be of any use when the page preview itself is displayed only when the user hovers over the link to that page. Doesn't it sound repetitive ?

Err no. There are many times that something that looks like a link might not be:

  • Using css for example someone could create text that looks a lot like a link, but isn't
  • It could also in the future indicate that the page is blank, and not show the read button (it would be useless to navigate to a blank page only to find out it is blank)
  • A page could potentially be deleted while the user is hovering over it, and or simply show old cache, in which case, one can't read it, and one won't know because it hasn't changed to red.

It is worth it in general to make page previews smarter in those contexts.

That doesn't seem warranting.

In that case Page previews wouldn't display a preview for you in the first place. It should work only for valid wiki links.

I have rarely seen blank pages in wikis a lot.

That seems to be a once in a blue moon event. I guess they don't think of these while developing features like these.
