Thoughts: filter IP edits and newcomers edits at the same time

Probably already mentioned, but... I like this new feature. But it was a bit unclear what the filters did when pressing them, I'm not entirely sure now either... I didn't manage to press on for example "experienced users" to hide their edits completely, clicking it only made it so that I only saw experienced users edits(??)... Also a bit problematic that the filters don't reload after checking a page revision/going to another page and then going back. Kind of defeats the entire purpose if I have to click on a bunch of buttons every time I rollback/block/etc and go back to RC. But yeah, otherwise very good feature ~~~~

Thank you for your feedback!

If you want to exclude "experienced users", you have to activate "newcomers" and "learners". It will then exclude the experienced users edits.

Filter choices are stored in the URL. So when you leave the RC page by clicking on a link and go back, the filters are supposed to be still displayed. Can you elaborate on what you do, from choosing the filters and possible highlights to visit a page and come back?

Have you also considered to open the link you want to check on a new tab?

Hm, I see. But if I activate newcomers and learners, I can't have non-registered users show up too? Basically I want to see everything besides edits by experienced users. It gives me an error saying the search criteria are in conflict.

As for going back and forth, it seems to work now somehow. The colour-filters doesn't seem to save though.

I think I've managed to reproduce your case but how did you managed to make it working? It is not possible to have IP + newcomers at the same time.

And yes, there is a problem with highlighting. We will fix it very soon.

Didn't change anything, no idea how it started working. As for the link you provided, seems like you put together newcomers and ip-users(?). Do you mean it's impossible to change the software to make it possible to both show newcomers and ip-users?

Trizek (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Can you share me your link?

IP users equal non-registered users. Is that not what you expect to display with newcomers edits? I'll ask for this case.

I don't really understand what you mean by "IP users equal non-registered users. Is that not what you expect to display with newcomer edits?". I would like to view all edits except for experienced users edits. That is, IP-users, and registered users that are not experienced. I haven't made any statistics, but I'm pretty sure new account-edits + IP-edits account for pretty much all vandalism. If IP-users and newly registered users can't be seen at the same time, a lot of vandalism will not be seen. You said it's not possible to view newcomers + ip-users, so I was/am confused as to why you put those together in your test on svwp.

Trizek (WMF) (talkcontribs)

When you filter edits made by "Unregistered", you filter edits made by logged-out editors, also called IP-users on certain wikis. I've been unclear, sorry.

New accounts edits and IP edits are not always vandalism. There is actually more good faith than we can believe. :)

On my computer, the link I've given you is not working. I have Unregistered + Newcomers + Learners, all in red and an error message: "The "Unregistered" filter conflicts with one or more Experience filters, which find registered users only". Isn't it the case for you?

The link you have given me has Newcomers + Learners and I don't see any Unregistered/IP edits in the results.

I've filled a bug ticket to have IP edits and newcomers edits at the same time.

Ohhh, yeah massive misunderstanding here, hehe... Yeah I know, there are good ip-edits, but most vandals are ip-users (or new accounts), although not all ip-users/new accounts are vandals ;-) . Thanks!

I am reassured ! :D
