Topic on Talk:Content translation

@Shanen, this is about your requests at another discussion.

You write:

Yes, I'd love more details. We currently colorize by sentence. Colorizing with a different granularity is not possible at the moment, but in the future we may be able to add this. Please share your ideas about this with me.

This is a valid proposal, but it's about the new talk pages feature, which is known as "Flow". There is another page for it: Talk:Flow.

Thanks!

The granularity slider would go from small (words) up to large (sentences or paragraphs). At smaller levels it would probably be good to vertically expand the text on both sides.

In terms of color assignment, the easy approach is to cycle though a palette of distinctive colors. In grammatically similar languages, such as most European languages, the colors should stay almost aligned, though in a case like Japanese going to English there will be major reordering.

Probably not yet feasible, but the kind of advanced feature I'd be interested in helping to pay for (if Wikipedia had such a financial model) would be grammar-based colorization.

As regards Flow, thanks for the tip, and I'm planning to take a look at it. However one of the other features I'd like would be to help split up comments into their appropriate venues. Perhaps it does sound like a possible "Flow" feature?

Very curious and innovative suggestions! Perhaps our designer @Pginer-WMF will be interested.
