When I tap mark as missing, the red wikilink is not translated. So it will stay as Conservatoire of Strasbourg but show Conservatorio de Estrasburgo. You have to mark as missing, then remove the link, and then manually add the internal link. This work great with people's names that need no translation, but in this case its tiresome. Please fix.

@Pginer-WMF What do you think? Can we formulate a better linking behavior for such cases? This is quite relevant with the rewrite in OOJS and VE.

Adapting the target of red links has the challenge that they point to content that does not exist. So it is not possible to look for the equivalent page in Wikidata. In any case, seems a process we want to make more fluent.

Here are some initial ideas:

  • Use the translated text as the target for red links. We need to decide what to do if the translated link text happens to exist already in the target wiki (being the correct article or not).
  • Provide a quick suggestion to update the target article name. So that users could do the correction in one click.
  • Include the translated text as a suggestion when the user uses the link to another page action. Replacing the target of any link should be possible and including an option that is likely to be used would save users from writing it themselves.

There may be even more options but we need to analyse how much this can be fixed automatically (without breaking other cases) or requiring more user participation in the process.
