unescaped ?s are stripped from queries

Does it mean everywhere or only at the end of the sentence?

No, it's everywhere. Question marks are fairly rare, and almost always used in questions. It seemed more straightforward to have them all be escaped than to have inconsistent rules (and try to guess where sentences end in different languages).

Ah ok, makes sense.
