Error: Hit AbuseFilter: Ads or repeated spam

Hi. I'm new to editing Wikipedia and just started using the content translation beta tool to translate from English to Bahasa Indonesia.

However, every time I tried to publish the translated article, it says that my article has violated one of the abuse rule, which is ads and repeated spams. What should I do?

I translated the article, linked possible key words to other Wikipedia pages and left all of the references from the original article untouched. Did I do something wrong?

Thanks!

Thanks for your feedback @Gwynethjocelyn.

The content created with Content Translation gets evaluated agains the filters of the local wiki (in the same way as any regular edit). Different wikis have a different set of filters to prevent vandalism but sometimes they misidentify legitimate content (they are specially sensitive to external links and new users).

In your case some of the external links may be interpreted by Indonesian Wikipedia as possible spam links. You can try removing some or just trying to publish again.

We noticed that AbuseFilter is often getting in the way of new translators, and we plan to improve the experience. This ticket captures the ideas we have and allows to track their progress.

Thanks, I'm getting the same issue today, so it means that this experience hasn't been improved.

Hi,

I am currently translating a page from catalan to english. When I try to publish it, I get the: "Hit AbuseFilter: Content Translation Edits" message. Does anyone know what the content translation edits is referring to? I would love to change my mistakes, but don't know where to look.

Thanks

Hi @Anatoli Gribatchev,

Thanks for sharing your case. It seems that your issue is related an edit filter in English Wikipedia.

Edit filters (also known as abuse filters) are automatic checks that each community defines to prevent potentially problematic edits to be published such as those containing links to spam sites or common patterns of vandalism.

The English Wikipedia community decided to prevent publishing translations to those users with less than 500 edits on English Wikipedia. You can read more details about this decision. So currently you can:

  • Publish your translation as a draft under your user namespace. Check the settings icon next to the publish button.
  • Translate to a different language. Since this is a restriction of English Wikipedia, you will not be affected if translating from English into Catalan instead.
  • Reach the 500 edits on English Wikipedia. Then the limitation will no longer apply to you.

Different Wikipedia communities can define their own filters, and Content Translation has no control on those. Having said that, we are working to better communicate the most common issues, since those can be a source of confusion for new users. So feel free to share more examples of confusing errors you may get.

Hi @Pginer-WMF,

I am trying to publish a translation from English to Turkish and sadly "Publish your translation as a draft under your user namespace. Check the settings icon next to the publish button." even this way does not works for me, I do not know way and it was also like this for my previous translation.

The reason way I am writing this article is because after I ask help from this my other Wikipedian friends but we were not able to solve it because we really do not know which line of the article were causing the problem.

In conclusion, I would like to suggest that it would be good for us, who faces this particular problem, would be able to see place of the words or line that causing to be not able to translate articles efficiently. If it is possible. Thank you for reading

Thanks for your feedback @Eecem1. As part of the next version of the tool, we plan to improve the way we communicate about these kind of issues. Highlighting the specific part with problematic content is part of our general approach to communicate errors. In addition we plan to make it possible to publish translations and skip automatically the problematic parts.

I hope this will help to improve this experience in the future. Meanwhile, feel free to provide feedback and track progress on the linked tickets.

Thanks!

I also have problems with AbuseFilter. I tried translating (from "en" to "es") a page that list many smartcards and the error I receive is "Los filtros de edición automáticos han detectado algún contenido problemático en tu traducción. Detalles: Hit AbuseFilter: Repetición de palabras". I don't know if there is a way to copy the source code and insert it manually...
