(as a followup to phab:T862#20463)

We say in Phabricator/Help#Claiming_your_previous_Bugzilla_and_RT_accounts:

Your account activity (comments, reports you created, etc) will be merged into your Phabricator account within the next days. Please be patient as this can take quite some time, depending on how active you were in Bugzilla and RT before. After the process to link your previous, imported contributions to your Phabricator account has finished, you will be e.g. able to search for reports in Phabricator that you had created in Bugzilla before Bugzilla's reports were imported into Phabricator.

What happens if I won't claim my Bugzilla account "within the next days" (timeline does not list that)? I think we cannot reasonable except that even majority of volunteers migrates "within the next days". Need more clarification on the migration process itself and we can inform users better. ~~~~

"within the next days" after you claimed/entered your email address of your Bugzilla account in Phabricator, depending on when you do that.

I believe what Saper is asking, is:

"As a user who has created bugs/comments in Bugzilla, I want the imported versions in Phabricator to be attributed to me, and not to be attributed to bzimport.

There are 2 possible scenarios:

1) Is it possible to "claim my bugs/comments back from user:bzimport", many months from now?

(For example, if legoktm added his email address to the bugzillapreview instance, would comments like https://bugzillapreview.wmflabs.org/T20829#9639 then be properly attached to his account, a few days later? Or are they permanently attributed to "bzimport" with no practical possibility for correction?

2) Or, is there there a deadline (Nov 20?), for adding my email address to Phabricator, in order for this to happen, and otherwise those bugs/comments will be attributed to bzimport forever?

If so, we need to add that to the docs, and to announce it really emphatically/loudly/widely/repeatedly over the next few days. Possibly with targetted emails to anyone who has:
A) created more than (n) bugs
B) made more than (n) comments
with (n) going in decreasing stages/batches, to help out the most prolific currently-unattached contributors as a priority.
Some of this has been done already, via phab:T862 ("Send two email notifications to active Bugzilla users asking them to join Phabricator") - AKlapper emailed 846 users 2 weeks ago. But still leaves thousands.

Whenever a new user registers, Wikimedia Phabricator will check the new email address against the data migrated from Bugzilla. This check will exist as long as Wikimedia Phabricator exists.

Quiddity (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Sorry, I'm not positive what you mean. Are you saying that we're in scenario 1, and there is no deadline at all?

Oh! Yes! (because otherwise the comments in bugzillapreview wouldn't have been attributed to me, once I'd created an account there!) [Good morning! Sorry for the confusion. >.< ]

Excellent. :)

Qgil-WMF (talkcontribs)

Good.  :)

We are putting a bit of pressure on users to register before the migration in order to have a critical mass of bugs and comments that will show actual users and not bzimport on the launch. Anybody coming after that day will be served as well, as fast as the throttled queue permits. "within the save days" is a safe bet, it could be just after 1-few hours.

That's T1000, and the last task in that sample is https://bugzillapreview.wmflabs.org/T1002. The migration works in batches, so when Chase pulled the plug, there were a bunch of tasks that were not completed. This is a problem unique to the bugzillapreview samples. It will not happen in the full and complete Bugzilla migration.

@Qgil-WMF: Isn't it actually when you enter and verify your email at https://phabricator.wikimedia.org/settings/panel/email/ , not when you register?

Phabricator doesn't get the email over OAuth does it? There is no guarantee that the MediaWiki.org email (if there even is one, since it's optional) is the same as the Bugzilla email.

Qgil-WMF (talkcontribs)

@Mattflaschen_(WMF), regardless of which email address you introduce during the registration/email verification process, the steps defined in the instructions stand true: Phabricator/Help#Claiming_your_previous_Bugzilla_and_RT_accounts. You can have several email addresses related to your profile. Make sure that the one you used in Bugzilla is listed.
