Hi Qgil, I'm interested in participating in the GSoC 2013. I'm a graduate student (IT) in my last semester of college and a prolific contributor to Wikipedia. I've some queries. If and when the time comes, I am wondering whether it is necessary to reveal my private information publicly? And, how can I apply to work on any proposed project? Thanks and regards.

Hi Bill, thank you for your interest in working on a Wikimedia project. Summer_of_Code_2013#Where_to_start and Mentorship_programs/Application_template should answer your questions. Summary: everything public, please. And the sooner you start sharing your drafts the better.
Wow, you are really quick on replies! Thanks. By everything you mean real name and location as well? Don't you think it's against the privacy policy? Due to some reasons, I cannot reveal my real name and location. I wonder how regular Wikipedia contributors participate in such events if they have to give up their personal info in the process.
Ok, it is up to you to disclose or not your personal data publicly. What we really care is about public proposals and public technical discussion in our regular community channels. Sorry for the misunderstanding and we hope this is clear now.
Yes it is :) Merci beaucoup!
