Future of this extension ?

Hi

I'm just a user of this very useful extension and I’m willing to publish my fixes. I see a lot of very useful fixes here on the talk page mostly from unknown IP's. But there are a lot of different code streams. The ontoprise GmbH who developed this extension was crashed and the web site smwplus.net is down since months.

  1. Are there any concerns here to start a regular mediawiki extension ?
And i mean only the Visual editor part without the halo or semantic media wiki extension.

You would make allot of people very happy if you could pick up supporting this extension!

Would it be possible to just set a github repository for the code (or mediawiki git repository), it would become much simpler for people to interact and patch things up.

Straumli (talkcontribs)

Sure, why not! Most extensions already use git. it just this extension is discontinued due to bankruptcy of the previous maintainers and nobody took over.

Wingsofcourage (talkcontribs)

That was my originally intention. Make it possible to check in fixes made by different users without upload the hole extension to a different place. Second intention was the move to ckeditor version 4.

@Straumli I saw your modification for mediawiki 1.20. Can you explain the changes a little bit more in detail ? The question here is: Do we need a separate folder for each mediawiki version ?

Straumli (talkcontribs)

Applied FIX1 of "Congminh1709 (talk)‎07:23, 15 January 2013" post. Mainly some fixes to tags not properly enclosed in quotes in /ckeditor/config.js. I skipped the indent part. i am afraid we might need a separate package per mediawiki/PHP combination.

So, do we try to push it on Gerrit, or just open a "temporary" github repository fast so we can start making sense of modifications more easily (or stay on github for that matter...).

Wingsofcourage (talkcontribs)

I think it may help to start it right in the Gerrit git repository. Because it helps with different mediawiki versions a lot. So we don't need to build a separate infra structure for it.

I just created my mediawiki developer account. Therefore i can't tell you how long it will take to bring it online. May be that someone else can speed it up ?

Any updates to the plan to further develop this extension?

The provided link didn't seem to work anymore, but I did notice that it has moved to a slightly different url at:

http://git.wikimedia.org/summary/mediawiki%2Fextensions%2FWYSIWYG.git

I've also noticed that Ciges in a later post has provided a GitHub repository too. Perhaps both these repositories should be mentioned on the main-page, so other developers that want to join in with your efforts can easily track down these repos (will be easier than hunting them down within the talk/discussion page). I'll make an edit to the main page now for this.
