Toolserver:RC Websocket server
This page was moved from the Toolserver wiki.
Toolserver has been replaced by Toolforge. As such, the instructions here may no longer work, but may still be of historical interest.
Please help by updating examples, links, template links, etc. If a page is still relevant, move it to a normal title and leave a redirect.
Firefox 4 and Chrome 6 have support for Websockets.
This tool is a Websocket server, that forwards Recent Changes from IRC to a web browser, in order to visualize them dynamically.
It runs on port 9999. The server status can be checked here (the "load" is an average, expressed in messages per second)
Here is a list of pages using it:
- a page that plays a sound everytime a page is proofread at the most active wikisources
- en.WP's recent changes (it scrolls kind of fast)
- fr.wiktionary's RCs
If you decide to write another page that uses this server, please add it to the list.
It is possible to use this tool directly on any Wikimedia wiki ; here is a script that turns the RC page into a self-updating page:
importScriptURI('http://wikisource.org/w/index.php?title=MediaWiki:DynamicRC.js&action=raw&ctype=text/javascript');
