Link to translatewiki.net

I'd suggest adding a parameter for the link to translatewiki.net.

I had a hard time tracking down where to go, when I wanted to direct someone to "where to help fix translations for the Echo extension" recently. After trying, and then giving up on the searchbox, I eventually went from the front page, to translatewiki:Translating:MediaWiki, to translatewiki:Main Wikimedia extensions.

Can't you just tell them to go to translatewiki:Special:Translate and type "Echo" in the project selector? I'll remove the link to translatewiki:Main Wikimedia extensions and other assorted stuff, if it tricks people into clicking it despite the huge "translate extensions" button at top... Otherwise, you have three+one alternatives:

  1. link to Special:Translate?tux=0 (using the anchors to the first message of the extension),
  2. light a candle for bugzilla:32060,
  3. file a bug to make translatewiki:Special:AllMessages not give a blank page,
  4. file an enhancement request for searches in the project selector to be linkable.

As of now, we could link translatewiki:Special:Translate/ext-0-all which is the correct place; WMF designers deemed the design of the project selector intuitive enough, so it's supposed to work.

Well, he was looking for a generic way to add the link to the template... and I don't think finding all the group codes manually is a sustainable solution. Though for the template we could use a lua module containing all the codes copied from mediawiki-defines.txt maybe.

Here's the thread I was responding to: w:Wikipedia talk:Notifications#"Het hoofdje" on the Dutch Wikipedia.

As a newcomer to translatewiki.net, I found the navigation very confusing. I tried the search bars, and with various options; whenever I did get results there were thousands of them, and it took many minutes to load them all. (screenshot). (Note: Now that I've gotten a vague feel of the site, is all seems a bit clearer where I went wrong, such as not scrolling down far enough at to see the second set of results. But for a first-timer, it's labyrinthine.)

Adding a link to something specific, such as translatewiki:Special:Translate/ext-echo at Extension:Echo, seems like it would be really helpful, for all future people who want to help but don't know where to start. Placing that link within the infobox, seems logical and ideal. HTH.

Indeed, the search in translatewiki.net is bugged.

Nemo bis (talkcontribs)

Which search?

Nnemo (talkcontribs)

The big search field on the home page. That is the main and only UI for finding an entry.

When I type the entry name, the search gives dozens of bullshit results, but not the entry I typed.

Nemo bis (talkcontribs)

What's "the entry name"? Do you mean the message key i.e. page title? Indeed Special:SearchTranslations doesn't have a go feature, I suggest to file a bug to ask it.

Nnemo (talkcontribs)

The entry name is MediaWiki:Newarticletext/fr, for example.

Now I am using the only working way I have found : the address bar of my navigator. This is a failure of the site.

+1 for having this in the infobox.

Done per repeated requests above and elsewhere after Nikerabbit kindly gave me a pointer yesterday: in most cases the default should work by itself (but some complex extensions may not have a single address at which to translate the whole of them).
