I successfully installed WikiMedia and created a few pages. However these pages appear as red links with the warning that the page doesn't exist. However when I click the red link of such a page, the page is showing. I found out that I can force WikiMedia to 'accept' the pages and change the links to (blue) existing pages by touching LocalSettings.php. This is good enough for me, as I have access to LocalSettings, but the other users of this Wiki do not have this rights (and do not understand any of it anyway...)

How can I solve this?

You have to make sure that MediaWiki jobs get executed. See job queue; you can for example run the maintenance script runJobs.php to update the links. You might also add the runJobs.php script to your crontab and run it e.g. once a day or how often you like.
