Hi, have you created the required database tables for the extension? Everything seems to be working except for the chat database table writing, since it is logging the chat messages, just not displaying them. Instructions on how to create the required tables can be found at Manual:update.php.
I seem to be having the same problem. The tables are created (after running update.php I see chat table already exists and chat_users table already exists. But I don't get any actual text in the chat box when I attempt to use it. Got any idea on what might be the cause? https://stockwiki.org/index.php/Special:Chat
I can tell you from just looking at it that your MediaWikiChat version is pretty out of date. Try downloading the most recent version.
Well, now I just feel stupid! I went with the 1.20 version rather than the newest version... hard to know which one you actually want at times. Thanks for the help it all seems to work now!

had this too in newest versions (1), tested with 3 different browsers (FF, chromium, opera)
changed then to: $wgChatSocialAvatars = false;
and yay, the chat was displayed :-)
nothing more done, hope it helps investigating this.
